Critical game for us! First on tour to set the tone for the rest and we have to get back on track (after getting ripped up by the Chiefs at home) with the wins as we aren't scoring bonus points. Etzebeth should be back and that's always a good thing.

I heard a whisper Schalk Burger is starting at Number eight

... Oh, and Highlanders named ... got a new open side flanker

I'll back us even away and without our Bokke. We have a good record against the Highlanders and usually travel well. I say this since I am more underwhelmed by the Highlanders pack than what I am impressed by their line up in the backs. We'll have learnt our lessons from the Chiefs game (I hope).

Dont think theres really much between these teams but Naholo has skinned the stormers alive so far.

Games not won though this is the sort of game the Highlanders are winning easily then come out in the second half and sit on their lead and loose.

Sigh, South African tactics some times boggle my mind, why get into a kicking battle with one of the best fbs in the world. Just kick it out and force the set piece. Otherwise too many errors all round bitterly disappointing first half.

Yeah apart from a few key moments this has been a very even match, the Stormers have actually looked a bit better. It's a good thing Sopoaga's radar is working.

Osbourne is super impressive anything 10 - 15 meters out he's near unstoppable even with three defenders there he's consistently making big yards.

Sigh wake up call for the Stormers I can't see any saffer team being contenders this year.

Sorry what was the penalty for on the Naholo "kick to the leg" it was clearly an accident and he was going for the ball even the vid ref's decision said so? So what was the penalty for??

Good performance from the Highlanders.
It's been a pretty good season for them!

Perhaps the ref considered it accidental but reckless, so the penalty? But then he should have said something to that effect.

As we learnt in the last game intent has nothing to do with penalties any more

Stoked with the result bit a bit sad about rugby at the moment

The 10 minute stretch in the first half where it went scrum-free kick-line out-scrum-penalty-line out...no free play at all, whAt percent of scrums were penalised or given free kicks

Please tell me you understand the huge irony that exists here?

You think when a player competes for a high ball but fails to claim possession and takes out the other (successful) competing player he should be penalised, but you think that when a player competes for a low ball but fails to claim possession and takes out the other (successful) competing player it should just be play on?

^^Neither of them had the ball at the point of contact so what your saying means nothing if you want to pedantically correct like you claim to be!!

It was an accident and should be treated as such just like the jerome Kaino yellow card in the other game. Its penalties and yellows like that, that will destroy this game.

Situation 1: Player A jumps into air where ball is, fails to catch ball because player B has already caught it. Player A knocks over Player B.
Situation 2: Player A kicks where ball is, fails to connect with ball because player B has already kicked it. Player A trips Player B over.

Why does it matter whether neither player has the ball at point of contact? If you trip over another player it doesn't really matter if they have the ball or not. Your exact words were "the player has to put himself in a position to be able to compete for the ball its not the Refs fault if one of the players either wasnt good enough or it was physically impossible" [to get the ball]. Naholo did not put himself in the correct position, he was not good enough and/or it was physically impossible, it was certainly not the ref's fault.

That incident you quoted me on was totally different as clearly the Cheetas fullback in that incident had every right to the bal (having had it in his hands when tipped up)l and the Crusaders player had no rights. In this instance nobody had control of the ball and they both got there at pretty much the same time it just so happens the Stormers player touched the ball before the highlanders player therefore its just bad luck for the Stormers player getting hurt.

Again it was a nothing call and should of just been ignored.

This is the major problem with the game how it is reffed atm they are just dishing out penalties for penalties sake its completely nonsensical and is a huge waste of time.
