I actually think the number of All Blacks in the Crusaders is a burden at times, they miss some pre season and have to miss extra games. They start the season slower generally speaking.
I also think carrying Carter ans McCaw has been dificult for the crusaders the last couple of years. Lets face it they are the two highest paid players in the NZ game, the crusaders will be forking out a lot of that and probably not really getting their moneys worth for much of the season to be brutal about it. But I do expect them to keep getting better and be worth it once the playoffs arrive.
If the Crusaders dont make the playoffs I dont think it will be because they have got worse but more because the Highlanders and Hurricanes are having arguably their best seasons in history. I mean look at the table, the NZ conference is by far the strongest of the three.
peolple who know my posting will know I go on a lot about this but Andy Elis is a poor halfback IMO purely based on his ballspeed. he has good vision, decision making and kicking but the speed at which he clears the ball is pedestrian. A couple of secounds here and there is the difference between an effective attack and what the crusaders currently have.... I think over the last couple years its clear to see that when Heinz is on the field you dont notice him as much as Elis but the rest of the back line all of a sudden starts to perform better... And I dont think Heinz is particularly fast either, just Faster than Elis...
