[2015 RWC] Quarter Final 3: Ireland vs. Argentina (18/10/2015)

Certain try **** ups against tier 1 opposition:
Earls: 1
Everyone else: 0

I was just taking the **** Muff! I'd also imagine that Earls has the most minutes and 5 missed tackles for an outside centre is very worrying given the nature of the position, but overall he's as effective as Cave or Fitz at 13 and if Schmidt thinks he's the man to beat Argentina than I trust the call.

Again maybe watch the game. French defender was over to cover. Was far from certain. And 3 missed tackles were in games on wing. So again as I said if people took off tinted glasses and watched overall they'd see he's contributing as well as any. Schmidt believes in him and well he's done absolutely nothing to deserve to be dropped.
Stats show a huge worry for Healy if you ask me. As many know I've had tinted eyes for Dave K but will give him fair credit his stats have been decent and if you re watch Robs try vs France the ground Earls and him made up to be support players was amazing. Also I'll admit I never thought Heaslip got as many tackles in as well I suppose he breezes through a game in terms of no explosive carries but like Toner keeps a high standard nothing explosive but constancy.

Earls has pace to burn, he was in and messed up! I doubt he'll do it again and we won so nothing more about it needs to be discussed, lucky it was against France and not Aus, NZ etc... Healy's been bad or at least started badly, his improvement was obvious in his last 30 minutes of the France game and I suspect that'll continue. I would start McGrath with Henderson starting though.

I really don't think I have tinted glasses on at all, I'm critical of what is our weakest position where we have three players who are all good but probably not quite RWC winning good which is unfortunate.

Worst teams have achieved with worst at 13. And I wasn't aiming at you solely but Earls get a lot of unjust crap. As does others. But on Healy I'm still unsure. I think he's just 1 guy that is off form at wrong time and trying to force it a bit.
@Dunney not sure was just chatting over injuries. But Donnacha Ryan certainly speaks in papers as he has a role. That was obvious just a question of from bench or start.

Figallo is a thousand times better than that Georgia mass of muscles, he destroyed AB's scrum in 2011 world cup while being 23. We couldn't have him for years and now by mere chance he's here.

Curious road though: he was the first option but got injured, so we had to call Herrera for starter, and then he got injured too so we had to call Tetaz Chaparro, and those georgian guys were actually playing against the replacement of the replacement.

Now Tetaz Chaparro is out and the original starter comes in again.

And now Figallo will get yet another injury and we'll have to call cumpa Herrera in and start all over again.

lol

thats right, Figallo is our best prop, by far i would say. I just hope he has time to show his class in this WC, because i dont think he will start against Ireland, so he will probably have 30/20 minutes only in this game.

Paulie will be back with Irish team Saturday morning I hearing.
Also IRFU will decide tomorrow if they're to appeal SOB ban. Could be a dangerous thing if they do as ban can be increased.

Why not? Weve scored a try every match, 2 for most of them. In fact Id wager we will get a try, likely from slippy Argentinian hands.

This is sort of what I mean, I you do get a try, it will probably be from an Argentinian mistake (eg. bad positioning on a turnover). Just as the two tries against France, despite being fully deserved, were a result of two defensive mistakes (Bastreaud & Michalak).
Even though, in fairness, Earls did butcher a beautiful try.

Irish injury update.

Spoke with Keith Earls myself. He's fit.
Sexton won't be 100% but the gamble will be taken it seems.
Rob Kearney had minor issue with back again too but will be training and fit.

Had POM in Munster Camp this week. His knee is bad. Will be out for possibly whole season. Can't operate for 3-4 weeks so will be doing some prehab for the op in pool and bicycle.

Great news on the injury front, Earls was excellent against France. Sexton to start is a gamble, but at least we know Madigan can come on and handle the pressure.

POM is a huge blow for Ireland. Munster too with TOD out as well.

Surely all tries are resulting from poor positioning of one kind or another, good attacking play is the creation of these mismatches.

Yea it's great that he will be there but he just wants to be out of spotlight. In the back. He knows he can play a role assisting Schmidt in some capacity.

Regards POM it is tough but the way he plays I suppose injuries will happen. Tommy is making super progress and is aqua jogging already so he will be back for December hopefully or January at the latest.

I think Ireland can turn it on when needed to be honest. We would have had strike moves planned for this game

So according to the42.ie the team for tomorrow is

15 Kearney
14 Bowe
13 Earls
12 Henshaw
11 Kearney
10 Sexton
9 Murray
8 Heaslip
7 Henry
6 Murphy
5 Henderson
4 Toner
3 Ross
2 Best
1 Healy

16 Strauss
17 McGrath
18 White
19 Ryan
20 Ruddock
21 Reddan
22 Madigan
23 Fitzgerald

Murphy needs to have the game of his life on Sunday. Still a good team and a great impact from the bench.

That's a savage bench considering our injuries, which might be key. Argentina are going to come at us like a train, hopefully we can soak up the pressure and use the strength of the bench to capitalise in the second half.

Match history between Ireland Vs Argentina at RWC

Ireland has always been the favorite in every game. This was because we were a team that only played a handful of test matches in winter and summer, and whose only official tournament in which we participated was the Rugby World Cup every four years

Not just Murphy but all backrow as a unit as its key to our gameplan. Hope Ruddock up to speed to as he will be required. Still a very good team considering.
Also I've heard rumours McGrath at 1.

Ireland will sneak it, I'm gonna be surprised if they are not in the semi final firing line of Australia.

Ireland couldn't have been favourites before the 2007 game! Argentina were the form team and we were Brian O'Driscoll with 14 people who almost knew how to play rugby!!!
