[2015 RWC] Pool A: England vs. Fiji (18/09/2015)

Thoughts after the first ten minutes

They're getting quick ball through the ten channel and will get it all day
There has been zero sympathy or sense in some of our decision making so far - wet ball, big occasion, but long loopy passes, bad passes, not a lot of movement in that lineout
England do not seem to be dealing well with the line speed
Very glad that was only a penalty for the lift, right call
Marler looks like he's splitting from Youngs in the scrum
Why would Ben Morgan pass to someone else when he can charge himself?

And penalty try, very nice.

Penalty try. I think we just witnessed something never happened before. The first try at the World Cup to be a penalty try.

Okay out of heat moment YC may have been harsh how Peyper missed it in real time though...

That YC was extremely harsh though get the feeling Peyper is making up for the tackle.

Good start agree with Peat, we still need to up our line speed in defence personally but we are probably scared of getting caught too narrow.

No, he isn't. Peyper is lucky to even be at the World Cup. He's the SA version of Romain Poite.
It's a personal opinion you'll always see me argue if you take a player beyond the horizontal it's YC, RC for deliberate or extremely dangerous play. I take the same attitude tonwards high tackles that are always above the shoulder. I know that isn't technically correct.

Not impressed by Peyper, he was looking for the next chance to card a Fijian after the TMO didn't agree with him on the 'tip'.

yup agree I may disagree with tip decision but the pulled down maul yellow was insane. I'm not even convinced it was a penalty try as opposed to a regular one.

Thoughts after twenty minutes

Fiji have killed the yellow card very well so far
We are not creating space for our wingers. A few times now (particularly with the Watson chance right now) we've created a little space but its all too close to the touch line. We don't seem to have the hands/lines to make that overlap properly.

Oh and another try. I might have to come up this style of posting my thoughts, seems to be lucky.

Hate the ITV commentary. Even the pre-match talk couldn't go 20mins without mentioning bloody 1966! (also, wtf is up with England in red in rugby?)

Yes! Think Brown was a little selfish should of gone to May other teams may have stopped him..

Gonna be a long WC if TMOs can just get involved like that and change the game, however many phases AFTER the ref has just been stood there........

Well, here's my point of view on the matter.

- Lifting the legs passed the horizontal: penalty only
- Dropping the player or not putting him down on the ground properly: yellow card
- Driving him into the ground: red card

Drew away side were even in the away dressing room. Not quite sure why that's allowed to a host nation...
