Wow, this really angers some people huh!

That point a lot of people are making, insults and anger aside, is that it really does look like he should have been cited and should not be playing. Presumably you disagree?

No it looks bad in slow mo as most things do, dont know what he was suppose to have done in the Fiji game that was so bad but I get fed up with people coming on here screaming thuggery like some stupid tabloid journ feeding off a false outrage demanding people are banned and their family all shot. Half expecting the "if he had done that on the street" line to come out next.

Its because of people behaving like this we have so many TMO reviews now and the games becoming so sanitised.

Almost 10 years on this forum, and it's the first time someone has called me names. "clown" and "sanctimonious hand wringer"... just WOW

It cuts deep, real deep. I think I'll go and cry in the corner now with my 1999 Wallabies poster. :)

Fair enough, I tried to see what happened in the Fiji game too but couldn't find it.

That being said, this incident looks very bad. I like to think I'm not biassed here, but I've looked at it a many times now and I would be surprised if it was an accident. I guess they have given him the benefit of the doubt but regardless after the suspension of the Argentinian lad for the whole tournament with what did genuinely seem like an accident (although I do understand the ruling), and the suspension of Nadolo, you can understand how this particular decision is going to spark a bit of controversy.

that's why I said "a guy who has a history in THE TOURNAMENT of thuggery" ie. the incident against Fiji and the incident against Wales

YOU CLOWN

Can you post that link again for the Fiji incident? It wouldn't work for me and I couldn't find anything on the net.

its his first WC you clown

Quit the name calling.

Goes for everyone.

On the Wood incident - I agree it looked bad, more just because there seemed to be a follow through with the kick rather when there was no way a ball was there. Reminds me a bit of the Huget head-stomp earlier this year - which I think was probably much more blatant and yet got let off.

There is of course the chance it was accidental, but it's granting a pretty large benefit of the doubt - especially as it will effect Wales in the remaining pool games.

Decisions made now anyway.

Its not Tom Woods fault if the IRB are not being consistant, if they were heavy handed with other players doesnt mean they have to error to that all the time...but I do wonder how he dodged that.

Its wasnt anything of note or least it wouldnt have been anything a month ago.

Mmm, not sure I agree with the sentiment. The consistency of the citing commissioner is one issue for sure (and nothing to do with Woods, I agree), the other is whether Tom Woods kicked a player in the head on purpose! If he did, and it sure looked like he did, then there is definitely blame to be laid, despite what the commissioner decided!

Anyway, I won't post anymore on this. Feel free to reply if you want though. I'll leave it to everyone else if there is more interest.

Has it really been 16 years since you last won it?! That sucks mate.

Sure, easiest thing to do is go to https://vine.co/ and search for "wood nadolo"

Cool thanks mate - yup I remember that.

Yeah, I think this really highlights the inconsistency of the citing commissioner. I don't think either are thuggish IMHO - although many disagree. It's taking me a while to get used to the TMO going back and penalising that kind of stuff, let alone suspending players (Nadolo). Happened again in the Tonga Namibia game too.

It's very depressing, but hey it could be worse - like say England's record in ODI CWCs or International Rugby League tournaments against Australia ;)

Or as we are on a Rugby forum the results of the last 2 times the teams met in the WC or the last Ashes series.....

I'd rather we didn't talk about that... particularly the very weird Ashes series (all blow out scores in a 3-2 win was weird)..

To be frank when it comes to Union you guys have the wood on us, so this weekend will be interesting.

and its unfortunate the position rugby is in Australia atm, but i think it has got to the lowest it will get and will only improve as i have a league background (growing up in western sydney) and every RL fan i know (inc me obviously lol) have a respect for union and support the wallabies and/or the all blacks, i think its more the old school league and union heads that still have the hate for the other.

You get it a bit over here too, heard the same line twice after the England-Wales from rugby casual's saying that they'd watched it, "England's whole team made 128 tackles, in giants v rhinos Peacock made 58 on his own" comparison.

obviously it's at a different level Down Under.

Yup people in NZ that haven't spent time in OZ often don't realise (or forget) the dominance that AFL and NRL have, particularly in certain states, and certainly when it is finals time.

EDIT: Spent some time in Richmond and St Kilda during AFL season as well as a couple NRL seasons in Sydney. I can't recall Rugby even being a talking point at the pubs let alone on the front or back page of the paper :)

I switched over from league to play union this year (in sydney) and I would estimate 3 quarters of our comp are ex pat kiwis. Not to many ****s are given about union over here, and the only time we will see it splashed over the pages of the news paper is if the beat the ABs in a WC, if they beat the poms or if they win the RWC. Its GF time here in Sydney so all we will hear about for a while is how the future immortal Thurston will lead the cowboys to premeirship glory!!

I see they are claiming he was trying to kick the ball?

That's exactly what it looks like. The ball pops out, he spies it and instinctively fly-hacks it like any decent bone-head forward would. I'm bemused as to where people are seeing any form of intention to deliberately inure a player. You can tell by his body and leg position as he approaches the ruck that he's simply looking to join the ruck as opposed to trying to kick someone from the opposition in the head.

Yes he does but connects with a head instead, still think he was lucky to escape with that, it may not have been with intent but it was clumsy. Although hes not the mass murderer some people are saying he is.
