2014 Super Rugby: Highlanders v Crusaders (Round 15)

IMO the HL have been involved in the most entertaining matches in super rugby for the last few years.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh... What a poor time for Dagg to actually make a tackle

For mine on the rear angle that ball is in goal before it hits the sideline just by the shape of the ball. But only just. Thats just my unbiased take on it ; 0

Yep, the shot from far away favours the Highlanders. Unfortunately (for the Highlanders) I think the TMO made the right call based on the close up view (it looked like a simultaneous touching of the tryline and in-goal to me too). Whether he was right or wrong the TMO is no longer welcome in Dunedin...

Hahahaha, unlucky Highlanders! What a dramatic finish!

Just so that you can come from a position of knowing the Law when you discuss this with your mates at the pub....

[TEXTAREA]LAW 22.12 BALL OR PLAYER TOUCHING A FLAG OR FLAG (CORNER) POST
If the ball or a player carrying the ball touches a flag or a flag (corner) post at the
intersection of the touch-in-goal lines and the goal lines or at the intersection of the touchin-
goal lines and the dead ball lines without otherwise being in touch or touch-in-goal the
ball is not out of play unless it is first grounded against a flag post.
[/TEXTAREA]

The ball was definitely touched against the post before it was grounded, so Vinny Munro is exactly right, the ball was touch in-goal so no try

This is first time I have ever seen that part of the Law apply.

I guess when dagg has missed atleast 100 other tackles eventually one had to fall his way... but man why this one!!

Jesus... Unlucky Highlanders, some of those missed kicks and terrible defence was the difference in the end.

I know that BUT technically even from the front close up angle that ball was inside before it hit the sideline if you look at the shape of the ball and where it hits the ground and not the grass to me its in but id never expect a video ref to rule in my favour of this.

I guess it's a pretty parsimonious law. If the post wasn't there it would simply have been placed on the out line in goal, in which case it's out.

And for me it was the players arm hitting the post not so much the ball. I need a replay someone put up a replay.

Regardless of the final decision this was a fantastic game. The 1st half was pretty quiet, but boy did it spark to life in the 2nd half!

Nadolo was the star for the Crusaders - he was basically unstoppable with ball in hand. Andy Ellis was good at halfback, while Taufua also really impressed with ball in hand.

Robinson and Hames were the pick of the Highlanders forwards for me. Aaron Smith impressed at halfback (after a couple of early errors) - he continued to put the Highlanders runners into gaps. Osbourne and Buckman both played well on the wing, Fekitoa was outstanding at centre, while Ben Smith was on fire those last 20 mins.

Hopefully the Chiefs - Canes game is of a similar standard!

Why did they just slot the DG? were in perfect position for it.

I agree. Parker is one of the few NZ 10's that can actually kick drop goals too!

Alternatively Parker shouldn't have thrown a skip pass, leaving Dagg with 2 men to tackle, which would have resulted in an easy try....
