[2014 Mid-Year Tests] New Zealand vs England (2nd Test)

Funny, that seeing as he is the one who said your quote: "what is the captain doing, what is the captain doing?" I.e. When Gareth Thomas scored for the Lions in the 2nd test v the All Blacks. :0)

you don't say?

I think he's well aware of that.

well i guess you can never be too careful...

Just goes to show, three inches is all you need...

But then why quote a guy who you find ridiculous? Most people would quote in their signature someone they admire.

I thought another ridiculous quote from Miles' commentary was when Jamie Roberts scored the winning try in the 3rd test v the Wallabies, it was something like: "it's done, it's dusted; archive it." Not exactly Ken Wolstenholme's "they think it's all over; it is now."

Oh, right I thought you might not of known who said it. It was 9 years ago. But why do you quote in your signature someone who you find ridiculous?

why not?

It doesn't all have to be serious, and it makes me laugh and it's pretty much the equivelant of: "goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooal! Brasil" but rugby.

Fair enough, each to their own. I just thought it was one of Miles's more outlandish quotes, along with "it's done, it's dusted; archive it", which when I heard it I thought WTF.

It's the truth.

No it's not. People have named good passing teams therefore not every team is bad at passing.

I think what ginger is getting at is ireland consider themselves the benchmark for handling skills in the NH - mainly because a NZ'er took Leinster and turned them into a super xv team :)

So what if it took a New Zealander to do it. When he came in he said he was going to make Leinster the best passing team in Europe and he did. It's not as if we were a bad passing team before either. There's also a number of other teams I'd pick out as having good passing skills across the team. It may not be the same overall standard in that regard to SH but it doesn't mean that every single team is so bad that there's no good passing teams.

All Blacks: Ben Smith, Cory Jane, Conrad Smith, Ma'a Nonu, Julian Savea, Aaron Cruden, Aaron Smith, Jerome Kaino, Richie McCaw (captain), Liam Messam, Sam Whitelock, Brodie Retallick, Owen Franks, Dane Coles, Tony Woodcock.

Reserves: Keven Mealamu, Wyatt Crockett, Charlie Faumuina, Patrick Tuipulotu, Victor Vito, TJ Perenara, Beauden Barrett, Malakai Fekitoa.

So a lot of Kiwi fans on here got their wish their wish with Bin Smuth at full back. Savea on the left wing will also strengthen the All Blacks back 3. Savea has scored 4 tries in his last two meetings with England. Read still being out is a boost for England.

So, 3 and a half hours until England announce their 23.

I'm pretty sure that back three is one of the best in world rugby. I think Israel Folau is probably the only guy I can think of who would have a decent chance of forcing his way in.

If we pick Ashton against that, well I don't know what I'll do.

the only certainty from an england point of view is that Henry Thomas, Tom Johnson, and Alex Goode will be watching from the stands. Ben Foden too actually. The toughest call is surely the bench spot for the back row - we can only have 3 of Wood, Haskell, Vunipola and Morgan.

No need to get defensive fella, there was nothing meant by it, it was actually a compliment, i was comparing Leinster to a super xv side because they were by far the best passing side in europe under schmidt.

You mean they'll be on the bench, or not in the 23?

I'd rest Vu ipola - he's had a long hard seaosn is carrying knocks, let him rest this week, and play the final test.

you know every once in a while my eyes lock on your signature randomly and I still frown for like a good 2 seconds...it'll be such good riddance when it's gone !!! :p

I'd like to extend some words of encouragement and respect to England. I like the AB but seeing what England managed last week I feel it's my duty to support England at least a bit going into this. England have really come a long way in a year, and although they were good already by 2013, they really were lackluster, and I and the English posters have had our battles on TRF about this. But I like they've incorporated some true attacking now. They look more ready than I ever would have expected some time ago for the RWC. I remember talking to some English guy at some party here around last October and I told him I really didn't think England could do much for the coming world cup and he agreed hands down. Now look where they're at, compared to that 2013 6N campaign. Considerable difference.
I feel England as of 2014 have exited the English Rugby stereotype quite a bit, and it's a good thing.

Fair point. Morgan more than held his own, and it allows us to put one of Wood/Haskell on the bench.

I wouldn't be so sure. Are you suggesting Lancaster will bench Pennell over Goode and Sinckler over Thomas?

I mean that would be great but with the Crusaders game coming up I can see Sinckler and Pennell reserved for that.

finally, just hope Ben makes it hard for them to pick dagg again...hes had too much of an easy ride for too long and some competition will do Dagg well

Ben Smith. At fullback. Under the roof in Dunedin. You English are screwed :p

Great to see Savea back too - he will add some real firepower to the backline. I'm a bit disappointed there were no more changes though. I would have liked to see Barrett at 10, and while I don't mind Read having another week off I would have started Vito at 8 and shifted Kaino to 6....

with smith at 15 England will have to cut down the aimless kicking late in the game, they'll need to forgo the bombs and kick the angles better.
