[2014 Mid-Year Test] South Africa vs Scotland 28/06/14

Afrikaans, What do you think about Francois Hougaard?

scott johnston shouldn't be a coach ever again playing the springboks with most our players not avaliable is stupid

well atleast its not the worst lost we had against the springboks but seriously this is pathetic we cant move on without our best we should have never played the springboks not because off that loss but with our players playing in france and england out for this game. this means were only picking players from 2 teams while south africa can have players from a selections off 5 teams with quality players. never again please or we'll never learn nor shall we improve if we play like this btw thank god thats over

Oh dear, at this rate Scotland are not going to be able to fulfill Mark Dodson's 4 year plan of winning a 6Ns Grand Slam and the World Cup.:D.

well you never know, looks unlikely even though we shouldn't have played this match as we can only select players from 2 teams

italy is going to struggle in rome this november, hopefully scotland will wake up in november.

Well, we do know; Scotland will be lucky to get out of Pool B, let alone challenge for the WC and there's just no chance of a Grand Slam in the near future. I'm not taking the pee out of Scotland, but it just beggars belief when the Scotland's SRU chief comes out with outlandish 4 year plans (back in 2012) where the aims are just not in the realms of reality. There's being positive and then there's just being insane.

I think he did pretty well!

Although the highlight was Lood de Jager scoring that first try! Love that player. And Schalk Burger was really good as well.

Scots did try to play some exciting rugby, credit to them for that.

S A had 16 to 18 players injured or unavailable said the match commentators

Players not available with the test falling outside the IRB test window;
Francois Louw, Bryan Habana, Bakkies Botha (injured as well), Guthro Steenkamp, Morne Steyn, Schalk Brits and I'm sure they count Ruan Pienaar and Wynand Olivier (8)

Injured players
Jean de Villiers, Arno Botha, Jaque Fourie, Damian de Allende, Pat Lambie, Johan Goosen, Eben Etzebeth, Pieter Steph du Toit, Flip van der Merwe, Franco van der Merwe, Tendai Mtawarira, Frans Malherbe, Willem Alberts (13)

Illness
Juan de Jongh

Having despute with SARU
Francois Steyn

I don't know who they count in their 16-18 though. All those bar Damian de Allende are Springbokke who HM has selected so it's difficult to say who they refer to as IMO one shouldn't count Olivier and Pienaar etc but should take into consideration the players HM spoke of wanting to bring through like De Allende who has been the form SA back in Super rugby.

EDIT; I'm sure no-one will mind me forgetting Pierre Spies being out injured as well. Another player who I thought we wouldn't see again but between Pienaar, Wynand Olivier and now seeing Kirchner back today... I won't count out the possibility. Gio Aplon also out injured but I don't think he forms part of HM's plans. Brussow actually fit but again, he might as well be dead as far as HM is concerned though Marcell Coetzee has had a blinder today and almost more importantly has been in consistent good form at the Sharks I have to admit though I've never been a huge fan. HM has had Lousi Schreuder (injured) in his plans but I have to say I fail to see what he does, I'd far rather bring in one of Faf de Klerk or Kobus Reinach behind Fourie du Preez. Hougard didn't impress me. Behind our oddly failing scrum (though I do think we got the worst of the 50/50 calls at scrum time) that is my biggest worry and something we have failed to address this June.

That said those worries can takes a back seat to the positives; Pollard a very polished player for his age and the perfect follow up to an on form Morne Steyn with good back up for us for once. We have a 15 that can counter and a mid field play making option when he joins the line. Depth at wing and centers. Depth at lock, hooker and in the backrow where we should't hugely miss 1st choice players. SO, just sort out that scrum, get another 9 or pray FdP stays fit and don't stop improving the basics.

Italy is going to suffer indeed, probably more than Scotland, but this isn't good. I think this says more about Scotland being bad than South Africa being good. S.A. have really found form in the past just-about-year, we all know that, and the fact they were missing players shouldn't be all that read into really because they did have some of their main players, and are deep and we all know that. But for Scotland, going 55-6 after only just barely surviving a match in Canada, barely beating the Pumas B...ain't too good a sign.

The NH/SH gap is now considerable...

So chuffed for Lewies. He wasn't even in the initial CC squad last year, but took every chance and has earned it.

Holy crap, my hangover is brutal, loved it!

Handre Pollard will be one to watch in the future, first cap at such a young age and he accomplished just about everything without problems, will suggest Montpellier offer bucket loads of money for him and he could learn even more from FTD!!!!!!

 Trinh-Duc's underrating is just sheer violence, it's unbelievable. At least watch some Montypellier/Top 14 Rugby somewhat consistently before making such comments people. You haven't seen the guy since the 2012 6N, so you'll have to make the effort to actually watch *a few* Montypellier matches to even claim having a semblance of a credible opinion on the man's game.
