[2014 Mid-Year Test] Australia vs France (2nd Test)

No they didn't... It was like watching an old Warriors NRL game; lots of offloading but no plan and crap execution ultimately ending in a loss of possession

They had 2-3 linebreaks in that last 5 minutes, and were very close to snatching the game at the end. It wasn't exactly accurate (and there was a lot of risk involved), but it was the only time in the match they looked remotely threatening with ball in hand...

On the contrary, they may appreciate all the similarities it has with AFL... Albeit when it is played like it was tonight lol

We won't know until the TRF user from Melbourne returns to the stadium. I think I heard whistles in the end of the game

But that still fits my analogy. Warriors used to make half breaks all the time with their offloads but always overcooked it and ultimately lost the ball.

Either way, whilst I'm glad we won, I wish our guys had backed themselves a bit more... Just way too much kicking. Luckily the tactical kicking was pretty decent in the second half at least.

France had to throw it around at the end. It was a much improved performance from them but they never looked lie they could actually win the game.

Surely France have to get rid of PSA. Average in the past two 6Ns, beaten in the Autumn v the big 2, abject last week and scoreless this week. 1 year out from the WC.

Not sure there is one French supporter who would disagree that PSA (and his acolytes) should go but you have to understand that the guy who will inevitably replace him in due course will be appointed on basis of total freedom to operate. He will then find that his B**** are put in a vice and he will be "told" who should play and who should not play on purely political grounds rather through any knowledge of rugby....and that is why he got the jig in the first place and why no quality manager wants the role. (Think Kingsley Jones and NGD for a poisoned chalice)! It is also why (together with historical connections and cost) most French people are club rather than Country supporters!

I loved at the end there was a French player(Lamaret I think?) who passed to....himself.....he passed no one was there it bounced and he fell on it himself. Pretty much summed up this game.

Rémi Lamerat, yes. I saw that :p

credit for not saying "awful in the last two 6N" because France indeed weren't awful if one actually watches the games, despite the results (Wooden Spoon for the most emphatic one). And losing to NZ and SA last November wasn't an issue, it's the way we played during the games that was an issue. Had we tied that match against NZ for e.g. as we should've with that last scrum 5m from the line, we'd still be a fairly awful side considering HOW we play. The result means very little for France, the game in Scotland was a monumental disaster although you can check it in the win column for the season.

Same here tonight, and that's all I'll comment on the game: conceding 6 points and 0 try is much better than 50 and 7, so I clap my hands to France for their defense Whatever they were trying to run last week was obviously another insane fail to add to PSA's illustrious coaching career.
But then, the fact that we never scored a try or only looked like half-doing so about twice isn't even the issue, again. We have absolutely no attack. It doesn't matter that we score or not, because we don't have any attacking. Scoring 3 tries against England and Italy last Feb. wasn't a sign of anything. Anything at all.
We have only guys who play pro Rugby at the top level along with kiwis and Aussies and Fijian wingers and co. in France, who are part of a real system, a real team for their respective clubs.
This here sums it all up, so read this part only (if not my whole post): the ONLY reason France survive (somewhat !!!!!) as a national side - the *only* reason - is the players' individual class. If we had average players or half-good, we'd be absolutely doomed, because behind, there is absolutely no certainty, no confidence, no gameplan, no real system, and a ton AND I DO MEAN A TON of elements lacking in the """"style""" - notice the three pairs of quotation marks.

I won't lose my time analyzing who played well, and what moment was good or wtvr for France. Seriously, nobody gives a fk, and nobody should. Bottom line: we are to SURVIVE from here on til the end of the PSA nightmare.

Well where do you start, one thing for sure neither France or Australia will win the next World Cup!!!!!!!! not on that showing
France has lost everything in the manner which they play, theses guys play week in week out with brilliance in the TOP 14 and when Richard Cranium (PSA) calls them together he makes potencial Cockerals into headless chickens.......... Parra awful, attack awful, agression worse than awful, the defence ok line out ok the scrum against a good team not brilliant but Slimani and Menini did well, Freddie oh Freddie cant even get a regular spot at Toulon comes on, gives his first ball to an Aussie, maybe ask them to wear a brighter yellow next week!!! and Tales kicking so good but what about the rest!!!!!!!!!!
Cant wait for PSA to manoevre this into something positive, i can just see it "great defence, Belle attitude, avec panache", etc. etc. etc. more proverbial Gaellic Bull sh**
The problem is, this is an improvement on last week !!!!! Last week it was an enormous shambles , this week just a shambles, next week after losing all three tests it will be just so unlucky, the FFR are just like the goverment stick a guy on the top tell him what to do and when he make a complete hog wash of it all support him to the bitter end even if the team loses all its matches, thats not important...
Talk about frustation ask anyone PSA and his sidekicks must go!!!!!!!!! at least next Saturdays match is live at 7.00 so i will be staying in bed!!!!!!!!!
Thank God the first pre season match is on the 25th July against Sarries, so only 5 weeks to go !!!!! then Clermont at St Affrique and London Guinness at Grenoble

I thought France were much better today. One of the best low scoring games I've seen. Aussies got some great players!

They definitely were and seriously challenged us at the breakdown, which was a pretty brutal contest all round. Both sides came out with a very aggressive defensive strategy, but at the same time they seemed frightened to run it for most of the game. It was only at then end that it opened up a bit really.

On the plus side, our forwards played really well I thought and generally dominated the now full strength French scrum, and our tactical kicking in the second half was pretty good, even if it was crap early.

Goal kicking remains a serious problem though, and the boys need to hover around Izzy more - he made 4 or 5 potential try creating busts, but the support just wasn't there.

Recall that the referee didn't award the McCalman's try, which was legal IMO. If he gave the try, it would have been a flurry of Aussies tries. Nevertheless, Wooollabies were the owners of the game.

It's important for Wooollabies to keep the winning mentality, in that sense this victory serves. With Robbie Deans on the bench, this game would have been a defeat. McKenzie is giving this team a winning mind, that's good.

Good to hear the Aussie viewpoint on the French team as some of my fellow "supporters" are being a little harsh on them!!

great statement!!!!!!!! how could they have been worse than last week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DIFFICULT!!!!
best game you have ever seen (low scoring) !!!!!! seen many have we then!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can't think of a flanker pairing I'd less rather face than Dusautoir and Nyanga. Must be like running at high speed into a nest of very pointy mahogany tables.

Only what they deserve!!!!!!!! they were rubbish, coached by rubbish an on form BO would have beaten them today !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it was a tough match to watch, but it wasn't a low quality match by any stretch, it's just that it was played like a knockout finals match in that both sides played with a mindset of controlling field position and forcing errors.

Not my kind of rugby personally, but it was still a match of great intensity and pressure, something which was missing in last week's match.

I'll be going to the game in Sydney next week, so hopefully we get a game that's somewhere between last week's and tonight's: high intensity, with bodies-on-the-line densive efforts, but also with plenty of creativity and daring.

You are going back a few years now!!!

The musical chairs thing was in th French changing room at half time, they put a load of plastic chairs in a big circle and numpty (psa) was in the middle singing
ringa ringa roses all fall down
numpty is coming to town
we are not going down
guess who's the clown
PSA is on his way back,
some shouted no he's not
we gave him the sack etc etc etc.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

agreed on all your comment, but about the part in bold: these guys play well in the Top 14, but without even being "brilliant", they at least play a structured game. That's all I ask. I feel like I'm repeating myself horribly often, but I just want a clean succession of rucks, the ball to go all the way wide meaning you pass an oval ball behind you to the next guy 3 meters away from you...etc...a regular, simple, TEXTBOOK FKNG ATTACK. That's IT. I don't want anymore. No I don't, PSA. That's all I ask for. Add a tad bit of depth in the passing, add one or two basic schemes and combinations, BASIC, repetitive schemes. Practice the skip-pass like crazy, it makes all the difference. And that's it. That is it PSA.
I don't know the first thing about coaching Rugby, but I swear I'd make a better coach if given a month to shape up. I swear. And I literally picked up watching Rugby during the 2011 RWC.
