2014 Canadian Rugby Championship and General Canadian Rugby Chat.

wait wait wait a moment, there's a team called Toronto Scottish ? must be beast :)

They are currently sitting 1st in the Marshall Premier League with 50 points and only one loss. Though Balmy Beach is 6 points back with 2 games in hand. The Marshall Premier League is one of the strongest leagues in North America from what I've been told. They are "way too far away" from me to pay THAT much attention to though I know Ontario has high quality rugby.

with a name like that no wonder. but on a serious note, it is interesting to figure out about teams from canada even though we nearly got a shock when we nearly lost against's you's. so thank you for telling me about this.

The Rock are notoriously difficult to fond information on, I barely even found a squad list for them last year for their roster as a whole, maybe Rugby Canada will get something up on them soon. I found out a few names for their game this weekend......Zach Coughlan, Patrick Parfrey, Jason Picco, Bob Rogers and Tony Wodzicki.

The Ontario(Marshall Prem) and BC(CDI Prem) leagues are definitely the best in Canada which is unfortunate since they are so far apart and run on opposite seasons so there's no cross over except in the CRC.

We're a huge country and our population bases are just so spread out. It's a shorter flight to Dublin from Newfoundland than it is NFLD to Vancouver I've been told. Alberta and BC are probably the shortest distance between the "hotbeds" and it's still like a 12ish hour drive to get from Edmonton/Calgary to Vancouver. I wish we were compact like France/New Zealand/Home Nations and that our best clubs could have regular contact within only a few hours. The thought of Calgary Hornets and St Albert facing off with teams like Balmy Beach, Burnaby Lake and Swilers RFC has me a bit excited and sad at the same time.

You think they'll give O'Toole and Ciaran Hearn a go or are those two done with CRC rugby? I've heard they both live(I think) on Vancouver Island training at the COE for the 7's team. Plus they're both older and Newfoundland is like the opposite side of the world for them now. I'm not that familiar with the names you listed except Pat Parfrey who should be one of their better players.

Don't feel too special there Scotty, there's also the Markham Irish, Toronto Dragons (Welsh merged with U of T) and the London St. Georges.

I'm hoping to get out the the Blues game at the University of Guelph. I went a few years ago to Blues vs. BC and had a great time.

Are any of the games going to be streamed?

The BC vs. Wolfpack game will be streamed tonight, don't think Blues vs. Rock is though, Blues just said to follow them on twitter.

Blues up 10-3 fairly early on. Barkwill with a try for the Blues, who are more dominant than the scoreline suggests.

Blues now up 17-11. Rock had a late try at the end of the half to take the lead but Blues hit back right away in the 2nd, Daypuck going in under the posts.

The Blues ended up winnign 20-11, conditions collapsed in the 2nd half and the game became a bit of a mud bowl in the rain. Decent enough start for the Blues though something to build on.

Wolfpack destroy BC 30-3 in Kelowna, Prairie boys don't get the try bonus point but they still have to be happy with an utterly dominant win. Bears look atrocious two rounds into the season.

What the hell is wrong with B.C.? On the flipside, sounds like McRorie had a great game!

We coming for you Ontario. I'm definitely skipping practice(if we have one) to go to the Pack/Blues game at Ellerslie next month.

Does anyone know if there's a recording of the Wolf Pack/Bears game I can watch. Sounds like complete domination which is surprising. I thought BC would be really tough this year and definitely thought they'd play way better against the Wolf Pack. I mean c'mon it's the 125th anniversary of BC rugby and they even had that tour of South America. I know it's a different team but it makes me happy to say the Wolf Pack swept the BC Bears while Uruguay(probably their ARC side) couldn't get the job done haha.

right lads i got a little suggestion for the tier 2/3 sections. even though scotland are a tier 1 nation your probably like why am i here ?, im only here because i love hearing about how other country's develop in rugby especially tier 2 nations as they are showing much development.

anyway my suggestion is that do you think we could start a this thing like Aviva premiership/Top 14 etc. sub forums do with fixtures as they post match fixtures every week there is a match on the following week. do something like this here for like US Leagues, this league, and others etc.

have a think, i think it be great and maybe give modders and idea for a sub forum maybe idk.

EDIT: i'd though i'd add i found the logo bit on the forum and seems to be plenty logo's to make them so

172,000 viewers for Canada vs. England game, not too shabby considering it was on TSN2 on a beautiful Sunday afternoon when many Canadians would have been outdoors. I think that's around what some of them Men's World Cup games got.

Am hearing that Glasgow is going to announce the signing of a Canucks tomorrow, any guess who?

Apparently it will be short term cover for 10,12 and 15, so my guess will be either Jones or Braid with Underwood and McCann(because he is absent from all CRC teams) as long shots.

I hope it's true. The more Canadians getting top training and playing time the better. As for who it is well Jones isn't Pro 12 caliber as far as I've seen and I don't know much about McCann except he's young with good potential. As for Underwood, he's hurt isn't he? I mean he didn't play for Canada in June nor the Blues this last weekend. Braid is the most likely of the lot I think. He can play centre, fullback, fly-half and wing. He may not be the most talented player but he's decent, young enough to improve and could be a decent addition to a number of teams in Europe. Whoever it is I hope they leave a great impression and can get a long term contract in Europe. If they only want short term then maybe Hearn could be an answer? He can play on the wing and I think he can play both centres as well as fullback if needed. No idea how he'd do as fly-half though. I'd love for him to show Europe what he can do even if he's nearing 30.

Also in CRC news this article http://www.thetelegram.com/Sports/2014-08-16/article-3836559/Rock-in-a-hard-place/1 says that Hearn and O'Toole could be available for The Rock in their September games. O'Toole may not be team Canada caliber but I'd still take him on a rep team and Hearn is Hearn. I was thinking of going down to Calgary for the Wolf Pack/Rock game and if O'Toole and Hearn were playing I'd run all the way there to see two of my favorite players haha.

Hearn could be it, but I have never seen him play 10. Underwood is still hurt? Damn, I rate him a lot at 10. Still think it will be either Braid or Jones.

I also think Jones is not Pro 12 calibre, but he did have a fairly good June and 7s year so that could have gotten him a short term contract.

I wouldn't be shocked if it was Jones. Glasgow gave that speedy American bugger Carlin Isles a contract and I'd pick Jones over him every time when it comes to 15's. I think Braid might have an edge as he's already had some experience playing in Europe, two years ago with Doncaster. Guess we'll find out tomorrow. On another note I wonder how many Canadians Doncaster would employ if it wasn't for those stupid overseas foreigner limitation rules in England. I know they wanted Buydens to go along with Hotson and Phelan this year. Why can't we be a Kolpak country like the damn Pacific Islands.....
