The 2nd edition of this Tier 3 African mini tournament starts this Friday, participating are hosts Namibia along with Zimbabwe and Kenya. These three sides are also facing off later next year in the Africa Cup (with Madagascar as the 4th side) which doubles as RWCQ these will be intruiging matches that should provide some insight into the potential Africa 1 and Africa repechage spots.

An interesting triangle. Namibia has benefitted the most from having SA as a neighbor. A lot of this is due to a large percentage of Namibians actually living and working in SA. That said I do think ZIm and Kenya have the best potential for development simply due to larger populaions and not being as spread out as Namibia is. Zim could have had a very decent team actually if not for a few of them playing for SA and Pocock for Aus but with the social/political situation there I don't think anyone can blame players for bailing if they get the chance.

where do you get this information ? just wondering

My secret and powerful connections within the rugby world. Were I to divulge their identities to the forum membership, I have utterly no idea the kind of personal devastation that could befall me at their hands.

Zimbabwe's "what-if" team:

1 Brian Mujati - Northampton
2 Pieter Dixon - Bath
3 Beast Mtawarira - Sharks
4
5
6
7 David Pocock - Brumbies
8 Dave Ewers - Exeter
9 Ian Prior - Force
10 Kyle Godwin - Force
11 Tonderai Chavanga - Cheetahs
12
13
14 Takudzwa Ngwenya - Biarritz
15

I'm sure you could find a number of other top level players to fill out the rest of the side, but that's easily a top 20 team in the world even if you just filled the rest with current Zimbo internationals.

Except for the fact that these players benefitted from not being in Zimbabwe, and playing their rugby elsewhere.

There were a couple of good talents in the Kenya sevens team, I think this nation has some great potential.

It's about time somone gave Kotze a chance, possibly the best tactical kicker I have ever seen play the game. Also of note is the Namibian-Romania connection a legacy of the IRB nations cup?

Yes, I think the Namibians first joined Romanian clubs after local coaches saw them in action during the IRB Nations Cup. A total of 7 Namibian internationals have played in our league last season. They are pretty good players in my opinion and the fans enjoy their spectacular play style.

Once again sorry about the follow up I should have stickied this one so I could have remembered it, but Namibia did indeed come out victorious with a 55-35 win over Kenya in a game where defence was at a premium. Nambia will be pleased with their performance I should think, they fielded a fairly strong lineup and handled teams they will(or might) face in RWCQ this upcoming winter. Still not in the bag for them in anyway particularly if Madagascar can draw the kind of home support they had in the last few years.

Key note is that next year's 1A tournament is a round robin. Though Zimbabwe and Kenya lost, still a lot of positives to take away from a full strength Namibia. And though I didn't make a thread for it, Madagascar played in the Serndib Cup in Sri Lanka a few weeks ago. They beat Sri Lanka and Poland to win the ***le, so good to see them able to get some test matches outside the Africa Cup window.

Watched most of the matches, Madagascar are a fun team to watch when they have the ball in hand or get a sniff on the counter attack!
