Ireland v Italy

Awful game but it's the first game of pre-season so I'm not sure what anyone was expecting.

Joey Carbery was never going to start against Scotland or Japan. He has two months to get over this injury.

Canny ploy by Ireland to try and put the opposition to sleep. If they're asleep we can score many tries you see, very clever indeed.

I was wondering why I wasn't more excited for the upcoming World Cup, but now that I've watched an Ireland match, it's coming back to me.

Other than the devastation of Joey being hurt, I'm happy enough with that. Not sure what people were expecting, it's the first warmup game. Rust etc is acceptable and overall a decent performance even if it was sleep-inducing at times.

I thought McGrath looked decent in the first half but getting subbed at HT is a bad sign even though it was obvious we wanted to try Porter at loosehead.

Larmour was very good, Conway was also very good but not man of the match at all (but given the fact that Lenihan has no brainpower whatsoever I'm not surprised). Farrell looked great at 12, he'll make the plane based off that. Kearney was good as well and Ringrose showed his class. Marmion was better than McGrath, Carty had some lovely kicks but didn't create much. Carbery was absolute class and he'd better be okay.

Kleyn was decent but I just don't think he's good enough to go, Beirne is much better. Ruddock was very good, Murphy was pretty meh. The way the squad is shaping up means we'd be better off with Jordi but based on that game (and the end of last season as well) Ruddock is offering more.

Get well soon Joey.

Buddy we all know you have a hard on for Larmour, you'd have his babies if you could, but you are high as a kite if you think he had a better game than Conway.

Would increase England’s odd of winning it
Aye, against Georgia we'd probably get a BP win away from ho....oh

Didn’t watch the game (forgot it was on in all honesty) what happened to Carbery, any chance he’ll be back in time?
Didn't look good, lower leg/ankle injury and couldn't put any weight on it at all - had to get the golf cart on to drive him off

You didn't miss much from a rugby point of view tbh.

Carbery had his leg trapped in a ruck 50 minutes in after absolutely bossing it previously. Couldn't walk off (and was crying) but I'd say there's still a chance he'll be fit for tournament.

No fracture, swelling is there but the initial aim is to have him back for the next game against England. Very positive, I'm delighted.

It was probably planned before the game, but you'd assume Kilcoyne will start next week and it'll be hard for McGrath to get in if he goes well.
To add add to this the assessment of pundits and some looking at post match comments daid "it was a tough day for Jack. He was excellent in the scrum but sacrificed due to wanting to see Porter and get more of an effect around the field"

Make of that what you wish

Excuse my last post... didn’t see any alerts on this thread so just popped on and replied to one before reading the next. That’s great news he should be back... a very good player who should be on the biggest stage.
