The following are the budgets announced in SudOuest today....It should be noted that these are the TOTAL budgets for running the business and not just player's salaries but still!!

Edit: Rugby Canada's expenses last year were 8,749,513 Canadian dollars, they actually made 146,909 in profit but this went immediately into paying down debt.

It's ruining the competition. A salary cap needs to be implemented before it turns out like football. You have large player drains from lower clubs, Montpellier for example, have been gutted a lot of the past few years.

Much like how the Lions and Cheetahs have been gutted by the Sharks, Stormers and Bulls.

The Top 14 has double the average attendance of the Pro 12, and probably has a much bigger tv audience.
While the Welsh regions may not be able to reach the same numbers on tv, getting people to the games would be a start to fill the coffers.

As far as I remember we have a budget of something like 20 million and the big English clubs float around 12-14 million tops.

Odd example to point out.

Montpellier are in their most successful period in the professional era and have qualified for the Heineken Cup two years in a row, and are hardly a "lower club" at the minute.

Also they have been able to keep their top local homegrown talent with Trinh-Duc, Ouedraogo both committing to the club. Added to that, they have been able to sign (and keep) several foreign internationals also.
