On scrums they often don’t give them unless it’s super clear that someone sabotaged the scrum. Then you could also say you shouldn’t call a pk unless you clearly see someone scrum incorrectly

It was looking pretty competitive initially but Scotland panicked a bit after the yellow. It’ll be interesting to see if they can bring it back with 15 in the second half or if Canada keep pulling away.

Yeah, if you can see a penalty offence, then you know who committed it. If you can't see one, then it's being "not as good as your opponent" - which isn't a penalty offence.

Anyway, wife's home earlier than expected, which means starting again from the start, and forwarding the scrum / lineout delays.
Expected her after the match, and she'd just watch this one later

Probably skip USA v Samoa, and watch it on catch-up

Law clarification please.
Scotland's disallowed 3rd try...

My understanding is that as soon as you know the ball is going beyond 15m, you're allowed to charge up.
TMO seems to think it's once the Ref knows.

Now, she still mistimed her run, as she went before the hooker released the ball, but TMO's explanation sounds wrong to me (even though the decision is still correct)

Interesting. I’m not certain what the law is but I’m sure you’re right that it’s not when the ref calls it

Absolutely correct, the ball is valid and in play and Helen could move as soon as the ball left the throwers hand. The refs hands at that point are irrelevant.

She can only react after the event.

Saying that she was very slow with her arms, it was really clear that ball was going way over her head.
