BBCQT was where Farage become known to the wider public and as such, started appearing on other channels etc. He was called out for not telling the truth back then, but Farage etc saw the quiet anger building because of how bad things were getting and used it.

I'm not saying he shouldn't have the right to say these stupid lies but as I said earlier, back in the day this guy would've been relegated to standing on a box in a town center alongside the bible bashers shouting "Churchill was the real villain of WW2" and everyone could just walk past them and go about there day. But now they're not only on the biggest online platforms in the world, not only do their views go unchallenged they also have these guys like Dave Smith calling cooper "a national treasure" which gives them, obviously, a lot of validation. Bit different to Hyde park which by the way would be infinitely better than him going on Rogan or Smith's podcast as at least they're views would be challenged in Hyde park.

Have you not seen any Hyde park content lol, it's all 'Muslim destroys christian' and 'Christian proves Islam isn't real, shocking watch this' hahaha highly edited videos to convince audiences of millions.

I get your point, we are in agreement about them being idiots, I think where we differ is I see this as a bye product of having the freedom to speak, regardless of how insane.

That said, I would also advocate to turn social media off after 10pm and at weekends hahaha if not delete it all lol

My worry isn't that these people preach this ********, it's there is a massive willingness to believe it. Joe Rogan has the largest podcast audience in the world and since COVID (and before a bit) it's just been a conspiracy theorist, MAGA, alt right cesspool of disinformation and stupidity. Yet people want to hear it. As we know people don't go online or listen or read news to have their beliefs challenged, they do it to have their prejudices confirmed. So the reason Joe Rogan has the largest audience in the world is because that's what people actually believe and that's far more worrying than some slap headed wanna be comedian and his circle of morons.

Interestingly Bill Burr hasn't been back on Rogan for a while..

I would agree with this, except the only flaw is that Rogan has so many guests from such a variety of backgrounds.

Rogan had Bernie Sanders on, and refused Trump for nearly a decade, because he knew what it would do for his image. He only agreed after years and offered Harris the exact same deal, which she refused. You can't claim it's been MAGA when Harris refuses.

I've heard it claimed that Rogan is anright wing entertainer a lot recently, and I genuinely don't think he is, he has found himself, like a huge amount of people politically homeless in recent years, and Trump and right wingers have embraced the centre ground whereas the others have abandoned it, especially on issues like free speech.

How in God's green earth did the right go from wanting to ban video games, books and movies, to being the bastions of free speech and expression?!?! I will never understand how that happened!

Depends what she says, surely? If it's a generic comment about something, then no. Would you say what Farage kept saying was dangerous? He consistently given a platform despite talking utter rubbish that lead to brexit.

Complete guess work, but I think many have become aware of how to tune out a lot of social media. Everything is pushed as a "disaster" for views/clicks only to be resolved within a few hours or days.

Give me some examples, it's hard to discuss on generalities.

Pretty much everything he said about leaving the EU tbh, how great it would be and how the the EU don't listen, the comments on the fishing industry etc. He knew nothing as he never went.

What we are missing is someone like Christopher Hitchens who had a great nack for calling out these dickheads. Yes he was wrong on Iraq but on almost everything else he wasn't and he absolutely wasn't afraid to have a go. Imagine him sitting on a podcast with Rogan and Smith?

That's why I listened to the Murray interview, I genuinely thought it might have been Hitchens esque (not to the same degree or consideration obviously).

I think your bang on, Rogan has used counter people in the past, recognising the wholes in his knowledge, but he only really uses people he knows, I'm thinking Tim Pool vs Zuckerbergs lawyer, Weinsteen vs Howard, and Smith vs Murray. Idnsay he usually gets that a bit wrong sometimes.

Well he was a sitting MEP was he not, so he had insight of it we did not, I thinknthats fair to say.

I think Brexit has become a **** show, and harmed the UK, but it's certainly not all the voters fault, the idea politicians who aggressively wanted to be part of the union went to negotiate on behalf of leaving, the underhanded tactics used during those negotiations, and the resultant issues that has stemmed after it contributed to the failure of Brexit.

My big thing after losing the vote, was that it was done, we've made a decision and we should all pull together for the betterment of the country, it's just a shame so many people used it as a stick to beat others, used it to undermine the break up process, and those involved totally ignored the mandate and just repeated the same issues that caused Brexit, but without the EU.

If we take immigration for example, all Brexit has done has changed the type of immigration, it didn't rectify a management issue, and it certainly didn't reduce numbers (as Brexiteers wanted). In fact all it did was swap immigration from Europe, to immigration at a higher rate from cultures who have less in common with British culture.

I wish it was that simple re social media, if you read comment sections it is incredibly depressing how easy an audience is manipulated. Go through the shorts section, the same shitty 5 peices of music are played on every other video, upload clips of tv shows, and rage... the entire comment section has bought into every video, wishing love on lost puppies, wishing hate on a bully, or bigging up the homeless woman in sexy underwear on Miami beach hahaha

It’s a by product of the social media/do your own research era. Not a by product of free speech. This clown could say these things decades ago. As I keep saying, the difference is the platforms they now have and, more concerningly, have people like Rogan and Smith’s saying these guys know what they’re talking about when they don’t.

You have responsible content creators. Personally, if I had the biggest podcast in the world I'd wouldn't give any air time to conspiracy theorists, there's no real merit, for example, of watching a scientist debate some lunatic for 4 hours about whether the Earth is round. However, if you feel the need to give air time to these cretins then at the very least make your audience aware of the facts by either challenging them yourself or getting respected people in that field to challenge the conspiracy. You don't just let them rant for 4 hours and call them a national treasure. That would be a good start.

Funny because you weren't in favour of pulling together for the betterment of the country after Biden beat Trump fair and square in 2020. In fact, of all the uprisings you could have chosen to be a good example of holding a Government to account and being for the betterment of the country you chose January 6th.

David Frost was the chief negotiator - a staunch Brexiteer. May couldn't get her deal over the line and it cost her her job. Johnson who led the leave campaign then got an even worse deal over the line after he won a big majority in the GE. I think it's nonsense to say that Brexit would have been more of a success if the right people were leading from the start. The EU wouldn't have given us a better deal. They had us over a barrel. Biggest act of economic self harm in my lifetime.
