I might have heard this wrong at the end of a meeting today but two fund directors mentioned that the tariffs can only be in place for 60 days without passing through the house of reps. Any truth in that does anyone know?
No. They are wrong. Trump didn't use 232 or 301s. He used emergency powers. The tariffs will remain in place until 1.) A deal is made with various countries 2.) Court injunction led by some interest groups.

The power the American president has never ceases to amaze. Any issue amongst the public over the lopsided separation of powers over there?
Seperately, general consensus in the funds space is that it'll be a rocly ride until at least the mid terms. Not ideal for the job market either as retirements are going to be delayed by this.
Of course there is angst amongst the public. But they are blaming the judiciary or Trump. The one branch of government to blame is congress. Congress flat-out does not work. It is a theatre for thespians to shout, whine, and gnash their teeth. And then do absolutely nothing. It's a broken branch and I do not know how to fix it.
You'd need to break the 2 party system.
Which would require significant law changes in how the house and senate are made up. (e.g. half by district representation, half by national proportional representation - and the latter weighted against parties with larger district representation)
Even those turkeys are wise enough not to vote for that Christmas.

Yeah fair, don't have enough knowledge of the ins and outs of it to comment but I always thing that the President either has far too much power or is too hamstrung depending on the make up of the rest of government on the outside looking in.
Congress is too finely balanced nobody has big majority so whoever is in charge gets derailed by special interest groups. More parties are required and alliances that give workable majorities.
It's why under Obama and more and more rule by Executive Order is happening. Basically because in Obama era Congress was controlled by Republicans and he couldn't get anything done regardless of any concessions he made.
It's also why most countries adopt a parliamentary systems and not FPTP for voting.
The USA is a terrible system in practice with good intentions.
