Your country's top 10 best players

The English 10 imo goes like this (in no particular order)

Cole
Haskell
Robshaw
Tuilagi
Foden
Simpson-Daniel
Lawes
Croft
Flood
Armitage, D

3 blindsides, 2 full-backs... we're not at all lopsided!

edit: If I was Irish, David Wallace would still be in there. Everytime. Quite close to the top too.

Armitage, S. is having an outstanding season for Toulon. When you see England's problems at 7, you start wondering...

Fairly easy one for me....although some arguments could be made about the end of my list.

Demi-God: Ed Fairhurst
1: DTH Van De Merwe
2: Jamie Cudmore
3: Jebb Sinclair
4: Phil Mackenzie
5: Adam Kleeberger
6: James Pritchard
7: Aaron Carpenter
8: Jason Marshall
9: Matt Evans
10: Chauncey O'Toole

Chauncey O toole 10?? I saw him in the Churchill cup and he was the best player in the tournament :/

He wouldn't get a look in if he was still at London Irish anyway: He's not a blindside flanker, which is what you have to be to play backrow for England....

Wales it seems we all have majority the same players.

1. Sam Warburton
2. Gethin Jenkins
3. Adam Jones
4. Leigh Halfpenny
5. Jamie Roberts
6. George North
7. Dan Lydiate
8. Alun Wyn Jones
9. Toby Faletau
10. Jonathan Davies / Rhys Priestland

He has really struggled with Ospreys this season and was only average at the RWC, after the Churchill Cup I would have probably have ranked him #3 or #4, but since the mid summer games vs the States hasn't been that great. Ospreys have announced that he won't be returning next season. Knowing Chauncey though he'll bounce back hopefully in time for the spring tours.

Edit: It's also a statement as to how the other players have stepped up their game, Matt Evans has been reborn at Cornish Pirates, Phil Mackenzie might almost single handedly save Esher from relegation, Jebb Sinclair and Marshall just received contract extensions, and Kleeberger is expecting to move to a Top Tier club after this season. Pritchard has always been a solid player and I think Aaron Carpenter is the most underated Canadian player.

Well, at least we're actually playing an 8 at the minute. Although I wonder how long until Morgan's dropped, now he's signed for Gloucester...

Matt Evans was a lot worse for Dragons than O'Toole has been for the Ospreys, and done more for Canada as well although to be fair I didn't see much of Canada matches at the World Cup just the second half of the Tonga match, I hope to watch their match against Georgia in the summer though to see how they have progressed since I last saw them play a whole match (November 2008 and they weren't impressive at all then) although I hear that is going to be ruined as Georgia aren't going to be able to get their Top 14 players released, I think if Canada have all their players available they will give Italy a real hard match

This is really bad news, the match in 2009 was against a weak Georgian side and Canada crushed them 42-10 the match in 2010 was a little bit fairer and Georgia came out on top 22-15 (although Canada was down to the 5th string scrum half and the scrum at the time was a mess).

I can see your points about Chauncey being ahead of Evans but I certianly wouldn't rate him any higher on my list than 9th at this moment. Mark Kohler, Tyler Hotson and Ander Monro are also players I considered but ultimately did not make the cut.

Just too true.

If his run of form continues he should be in contention for this year summer's tour, no question about it. No point shooting ourselves in the foot and excluding all foreign players if they're outplaying the incumbents.

Excluded David Seymour and he's not even in France ;)

England don't want a 7, and haven't done for years :(

Hmmm... for some reason I find this surprisingly tough but here it goes:

1. Brian O'Driscoll- His leadership, particularly in defense, is sorely missed, as is his freakish all round ability and propensity to do something brilliant.
2. Paul O'Connell- I don't want to oversell the guy, but when he is out you really notice the difference, remember when he came off the bench against France in the warm-ups... a top class player and a talisman in the team, not sure if the captaincy suited him though!
3. Rob Kearney- Always rated him as a player, I thought he came across as a bit too arrogant a few years ago but he has really matured. Flawless under the high ball and has been driving the team on in recent games, shaping up quite nicely to become one of those players Ireland just love to implode without.
4. Stephen Ferris- Absolute beast of a man, sheer quality allied with an immense workrate, a real force of nature!
5. David Wallace- I reckon old man Wallace is possibly our most underrated player of the last decade, a calm head who often stood out against the likes of Wales and Scotland ( Two teams we are prone to not finishing off properly/playing shite against) in recent years, I also think he was better at ruck time than SOB- who looses out to Ferris in my top ten.
6. Sexton- Hasn't been top class for Ireland, for a complicated mixture of reasons, but if he can continue to improve his form/management alter the tactics then he will blossom into a world class player (fingers crossed!)
7. Tommy Bowe- Lethal finisher, skillful, and a good footballer.
8.Mike Ross- Not great in the loose, or even the tight if truth be told, but seems to be working on the poorer aspects of his game, and he is a very good scrummager who has helped fill the sizeable hole John Hayes left, even though it should have been filled long before Hayes left, has given Ireland a scrum!
9.Ronan O'Gara- If Sexton is struggling to control a game or we need to use a territorial game plan who better than ROG? Brilliant from the tee, excellent punting and brilliant reading of the game.
10. Any of Donnacha Ryan/Dan Touhy/ Mike McCarthy- Donncha O'Callaghan does believe it or not have an important role in the team as the one who's sole charge is to hit as many rucks as humanly possible and make as many tackles as possible, something which for years he did quite well, but of late he just doesn't cut it in a team with aspirations of reaching a world cup final, Ryan has displaced him at Munster where he has been phenomenal, Touhy has been on great form for the last two seasons and deserves to have more than one cap to show for, while McCarthy has frequently been a standout player in the Connacht pack but is the oldest of the three.

I've was just about to put down some notable mentions when I realized that would incorporate our whole starting XV over the last year, as well very few others players have been tried/impressed <_<

1. Sam Warburton (Up there for one of the best openside in the world, when he's not there we notice it at the breakdown)
2. Dan Lydiate (Tackling machine, and frees up Toby Faletau, and Warburton to do their jobs)
3. Gethin Jenkins (Best prop in the world when fully fit, tackles, and works like an extra openside)
4. Adam Jones (Rock scrummager for Wales)
5. Mike Phillips (Get thoses hard yards around the ruck, and when he's busting holes Wales are on a roll)
6. Rhys Priestland (Get's the best out of the backline)
7. Leigh Halfpenny (The most all round, and talented player in the team, has everything)
8. George North (Everyone knows George)
9. Jamie Roberts (Overrated, but still a good player, a bit lazy at times and needs to utilise his frame as a decoy now and again)
10. Toby Faletau (He's pretty good for a Tongan. He has proved he is one of the top 8's in the NH and given time the world. In the WC he was rampaging, but now he is a tackling machine...by union standards)

This is in order of importance.

1. Dave Pocock
2. Kurtley Beale
3. Will Genia
4. James O'Connor
5. James Horwill
6. Ben Robinson
7. Quade Cooper
8. Stephen Moore
9. Adam Ashley Cooper
10. Berrick Barnes

ETA: I'll try Nz from an outsider perspective (ie: players i'd want to convert).

1. McCaw
2. Carter
3. C. Smith

5. Kaino

Glad to see the English equally (to us Saffa's) unable to put together a group of 10 with the June tests not too far off. With injuries, key SA players moving on and zero time together with the re-worked S15 competition Heynecke Meyer will have his work cut out for him to field a world class team. Usually I wouldn't be concerned by any visiting test team bar the AB's and now Aus and Wales with young but settled and consistent teams.

Wow, I'm surprised about the backrowers. I didn't think I could imagine Juan Smith or Brüssow getting their asses handed to them... I rate Strauss however, I'm not surprised by that one.

I meant that Smith and Burger are injured (you're right, Juan just doesn't take a step back ever) but Brussow is looking decidedly average with the new interpretations at the breakdown (though to be fair at times its a lottery with the inconsistency from the ref's) and Spies has been a phantom for the better part of 3 years now and many don't even consider him the 5th best loose forward at the Bulls never mind SA with plenty of quality depth.

I would be genuinely surprised if Spies doesn't play a major part in Meyer's plans. Meyer may well be thinking "Ag, PdV is kak. Ek kan my Bulle maak om mooi te speel"*

Cue Spies getting a further year to display his invisibility super power at international level.g there, apologies

The Bulls connection and Meyer effectively being out of the loop for 4 years scares me as well. I'm firmly behind his views of every test counting but if that means he goes for 'experience at all costs' and includes guys like Spies, Du Preez, Habana etc I'll cry my eyes out. I would'nt even be surprised to see Bakkies, Gary or Daniesaurus run out against England although I hope the Vermeulens, Bismarcks(need to get back on track though; first two outings this year not overly impressive), Hougaard and Lambies that have been waiting so patiently in SA get their chance at last.

I'm glad to see Canada improving steadily (and I actually know about most of the players you mentioned). The more top teams there are at test level the better for the game.

On the Aussie side of things, that is quite the list. Predominantly youthful, mercurial talents. Perhaps a little light-weight, but som world-class footballers there.

On the NZ side, nice to see that Smith gets the acknowledgement that his importance and ability warrant. Seems to be a lot rarer these days, what with Boxing Bill now giving up his spare time away from the ring to don the black jersey.

Dude, I don't think (Apart from Carter, and Nonu and maybe Thorn) any of those AB's players are better than the Aussie ones. For instance, I rate Pocock as the best openside in world rugby and he is a mile ahead of Mccaw at the moment, and when you think about it, Mccaw has been exceptional, but has played with a good pack, something Oz have not always had until recent. However in the Kiwi list what about the likes of Sonny Bill Williams, perhaps one of the best ball players in Union, and Israel Dagg?

OK I'll give this a shot, it's almost impossible to do but taking a shot in the dark, a lot of the players I've mentioned haven't really impressed in the first 2 games of super rugby but it's still a long time until June, anyway:

1. F Hougard
2. B du Plessis
3. A Bekker
4. F Steyn
5. P Lambie
6. M Steyn
7. J Goosen
8. D Vermulen
9. J Taute
10. H Brussow

Didn't really think about the order much but that's my top ten anyway.

I'm almost certain you missed 4 Parisses... :p

Joking aside Benvenuti looks like he could be absolute class for Italy and he's only 21

01 Adam Jones. If he doesn't play we are pretty much done.
02 Gethin Jenkins, as above
03 Sam Warburton. Excellent player, what more?
04 Jamie Roberts. Key to our attack and defence.
05 Leigh Halfpenny.
06 Dan Lydiate. Tackles, tackles, tackles.
07 George North. Very close to Roberts in regards to necessity in attack.
08 Toby Faletau. Always improving, underrated by many.
09 Ryan Jones. Very tough call, but he is very unlucky to be on the bench. AWJ is a bit hot and cold.
10 Rhys Priestland. He isn't a spectacular player, and has suffered a drop in form, but plays well with our backline.
