Wilko's newest injury...

he's still getting paid right? sly devid him! getting paid but doing jack all

Why retire? If he keeps playing enough maybe he will die  AND WE WILL HAVE OUR revenge.... his bloody kicking sunk Australia in the world cup.

Yeah, that had nothing to do with the Pom pack destroying the convicts' front 8.

If there's one thing that REALLY ****** me off, it's somebody harping on that Wilkinson single handedly won the world cup. Had SCW done the right thing and replaced him after that knock in the 20th minute (or however long it was) with Grayson, England STILL would have won. Probably more convincingly.

With more backline moves.

And a better goal kicking percentage.

I don't see why Wilko is getting flack for this.

We really should be blaming this army of fanboys, a grouping which he neither likes nor wants, trumpeting everything he does excitedly.

For example, when asked if he would be england captain if offered, he said what any decent Englishman would say and simply said "yes".

"Yes" suddenly, thanks to the media fanboys, "yes, I want to be first in line to be captain for the autumn internationals!"

You see, this is called "idol mania". The idol attracts followers, in this case, many followers. These guys usually are blind to the form, health or even the wishes of the idol, all they care about is promoting their idol.

Its unsurprising to see that in the end its Wilko who suffers. Leave off the guy and lets focus on the idiots who keep pouring impossible pressure on him.

Well, you do realise that if Australia had won in the sudden death penalty shoot out that was to follow, it would have been Australia's Flatley that would have won RWC 2003 all by himself? :p

No, the teams were that close, that well matched and that committed that regardless of which kicker had slotted over the final score, it couldn't have happened without the other fourteen players getting the team to a point where the scores were tied at 17-17 ;)

Thus, the assertion that Flatley/Wilkinson would have won it for their respective nations all by themselves is patently false.

Carry on

It's a shame that Wilko gets hated on so much. He has been an outstanding player for England and English rugby. He has also not gone to clubs for better money, he has decided to say at Falcons.. when he could have journeyed around for the money like players who have his status level.

I think he is well past his peak, his peak was short although extremely productive but i think he is burned out now, he is another Michael Owen. Super talent, does some wonderful things in his sport early on has a great run.. and then gets injury after injury until he is just a pale reflection of the previous legend he used to be.

He shouldn't retire, but he will obviously be overtaken for England now by a fit Cipriani and others like Lamb, Geraghty etc who hopefully can become good test players, not just remarkable/promising club players.

He has achieved a lot in his career, but it's tough for anyone to retire. Of course he can achieve more, but not at Falcons, and i don't think he is the bandwagoning type to join a team that has a ***le shot.

He should join another club that will perhaps use him better than Falcons do where he can become another King Carlos.. get some spark back in his game and then run out his career as a legend.
