Mantanavou was a bit of a wildcard.
not really, to the British and Irish press maybe because they hadn't heard of him
but signing the top try scorer of Pro D2 who was given an award for the best player in the league was hardly signing some little known talent based in another country
Toulouse's recruitment tactic is just to buy any French player who gets an international cap through from for a smaller team
examples are such as Picamoles (Montpellier, who were small at the time), Nyanga (Béziers), Poux (Narbonne), David (Bourgoin), Fritz (Bourgoin), Jauzion (Colomiers) from the current squad
all of whom made their international debuts with those clubs, and then Novès just thinks "oh, they are in the France team and in a small team, let's sign them"
and previous examples are Heymans (Agen), Elissalde (La Rochelle), Delaigue (Toulon, pre money), Pelous (Dax), Tournaire (Narbonne)
Dusatoir and Lecouls are also players who have been signed after international debuts, but they aren't really in a small team
add that to a fantastic academy, and several established overseas names and that's why they are the French champions
He must be bad if they're considering Dan Biggar...
where have you heard this ?
