I think Beauxis is slightly better than Dan Parks and a relative of David Skrela. There is no coincidence that Stade Français suffered so badly for the two years with him as the main flyhalf after Hernández left. There is also no coincidence that France lacked so much spak in the 6N with Beauxis playing at pivot. For Toulouse this season he has been poor - scoring loads of points through drop goals and penalties but not feeding his backs. He´s been Lionel Parks. No need foer him in the French team since the top four scrumhalves are all outstanding goalkickers. No point in him playing for Toulouse either, not if winning the championship is the desire.

McAlister may not be the greatest outhalf( he actually is) but he is considerably better than beauxis. Jauzion is no fullback either. I definitely would have had McAlister on the bench if not starting. He was playing very well and so were Toulouse at the start of the season. He was replaced by beauxis and there season started to go downhill

I certainly am not. He has done well at 10, but he is a superb 12.
Goalkicking lets him down sometimes. Very underrated player, Carter/McAlister would have been an excellent combination post 2007 WC, had he not left.

I see no sense in putting Beauxis (the massive boot) over an actual playmaker.

Bah, I meant to comment on this thread, but accidentally wrote it in the middle of my notes. I've been up far too long.

Anyway, the lack of top French out halves is a real pain for Toulouse. What's worse is that all the outhalves in New Zealand are young enough to still think themselves in contention for the national team and would be unlikely to want to move up North at the moment. Slim pickings from Oz, South Africa and anywhere else at the moment too.

If they could get their hands on Ian Madigan they'd be sorted. Bursting with potential, great running game, decent kicking game and would come on miles with a season in France. But he's not going anywhere.

If they want to sign someone, I'd suggest Sias Ebersohn. Good boot, eye for gaps and can step.
Problem is Robert and Sias are a package deal. Wonder how long that will last with Sias sitting on the bench all season.

Nicky Robinson, on form, is a good outside half. Great pass off both hands, also a good running game. Boot can be a bit shaky, and prone to bad days. A Welsh David Skrela, somewhat.

I've never been much a fan of Robinson, truth be told. That said, I'd imagine the Blues would kill to have him back.

One of the Glasgow 10's could do a job I suppose. They're both competent players and will no doubt be looking for first team football.

I've seen Nicky have come class performances, and some shockers. James Hook v0.9 I suppose.

If they want to sign a young one, they could go for Demetri Catrakilis. London Irish are interested in him I hear. Not a bad player, still needs to develop but I think he would do well having McAlister outside.

What is Wisniewski up to these days? He isn't outstanding, but certainly not a bad 10, and actually French.

Looking at Super rugby and ex S rugby players who would realistically go to Europe now:

Stephen Brett - If they can bring him over from Japan. Never really rated him in S rugby but i reckon he could shine in Europe, he's got all the skills.
Butch James - Good player but getting old
Tusi Pisi - looked pretty good for Samoa in the WC
Peter Grant - plays an expansive running game, French rugby would suit him imo. Although he is young at 26 and could break into the Boks.
Burton Francis - Played well for the Bulls in the CC but hasn't really pushed on from then. Probably a lower ranked side would sign him first.
Meyer Bosman - Burst onto the scene as a 10 but playing 12 for the Sharks now
Michalak? (i know he's going to Toulon, but Toulouse could use him!)

Of course McAlister is no fly-half. The All Black selectors worked that out by mid-2009. That's why they didn't try to hold on to him.

I agree, McAlister has been very good with ball in hand for Toulouse at 10, it's just a simple case of his goal kicking being poor, and his punt kicking not being that good either, but his creativity at 10 is very very good

no Wisniewski is crap, he is a mini Beauxis, no creativity whatsoever just kicks, and he's not even that good at kicking anyway, Racing have been playing poorly with him as their 10 this season
