Farrell is a really good rugby player but he always seemed to be a second playmaker rather than a first receiver. Him and ford/sexton worked brilliantly at times and Saracens always had other options.

I never understand the argument for selecting a player that he is really good with the other lads around the squad and can give the benefit of his experience. If thats the case put him on the coaching staff, not on the pitch. If you are going to put him on the pitch he needs to do good things on the pitch.

Don't forget us Scots.I'm really enjoying the fact that we English are less pleased about this than our Irish brethren.
In fairness, I don't really agree with Owen being parachuted into the Squad either. It doesn't seem quite fair.

I've read accusations of nepotism, suggestions that the purpose of this call up is to enable OF to trouser £100k, and insinuations of national bias. Those are nonsense. AF's reputation will stand or fall on the success of these Lions and that will be the only factor in his decision making. That said, I find this decision incredibly difficult to understand and wouldn't have made the choice myself. But then I played 3rd XV at a very modest level and AF was a dual code international who is now a successful coach. I think I know whose judgement I'd trust

Can’t see AF doing this without good reason, it’s incredibly risky. I would imagine as someone else said that there have been calls for someone to bring support to Itoje and sort out the leadership.
Not quite sure how OF fits into the team when there are 4 very good centres already, there must be a plan though.
He is incredibly well liked by other players, don’t let the easy headline conclusions fool you…
