Wales v Ireland, 02/02/13

Pity Hibbard is out, but considering Owens has all but overtaken Rees for the Scarlets and was one of the few players that showed up in the Autumn, I would have gone for him personally. I hope we see the Gethin Jenkins of old out there, but I would have gone for Paul James in the opening test. Plenty of grunt to bring off the bench at the scrum though with James and Kohn. Coombs is an odd choice, I hope it pays off. He's got a lot of potential, all the right physical attributes for international rugby, but he's never looked quite ready for the Dragons. Maybe he'll show up better behind a strong front-row, and alongside a batter lock than Sidoli.

Despite wanting to see Tipuric and Warbs start, I'm not upset with the back row Howley has gone with. Shingler is a fine, fine player.

The back's picked themselves with Eli Walker out, so no complaints there. The bench looks fine, although I'd have preferred to see Byrne filling the 23 shirt, with Hook covering centre, but that's a minor complaint.

Not quite the team I would have selected, but at the same time I'm not overly disappointed.

Ah looks like the Western Fail was spot on then... Typical Howley picking a fairly unimaginative team, going with what he knows. It's not a bad team, fairly solid, though I'd have started Paul James, Tipuric and probably Kohn too.

To be fair, I think this is quite a brave selection from Howley (other than 2 at 6 maybe). Paul James is the safe bet at looshead, but Howley has gone for Jenkins in the hope he shows more than he did in the Autumn. Coombs wasn't a safe call, Lou Reed would have been the unimaginative selection. No idea if it will pay off, but let's wait and see.

Just turned the 2012 dvd to get me in the mood!

I haven't seen much of Coombes! Lets hope biggar has a huge game!

Disappointed that the coaches still refuse to select Tipuric in the starting XV alongside Warburton.

I would have also selected Paul James for this match, as well as Ken Owens who has now overtaken Rees at the Scarlets, and also started Kohn or Shingler as a lock ahead of the remarkably average Coombs who I have no idea how he has worked his way into the starting XV despite not even being the best lock at the Dragons.

Have Tipuric and Warburton been together on the field?

They've had a handful of appearances together, with one coming off the bench (Usually Tipuric, but Warburton came on at 8 against Samoa). Shame we're yet to see them start together.

I'm not too disappointed in the team, to be honest. Andrew Coombs to have a huge game. I've got a good feeling about him.

I don't mind Coombs, only thing is I've never watched a Dragons game and though 'Y'know who we really should have in the Welsh squad? Andrew Coombs'. He's a solid performer at regional level, just hope he can deliver the goods at international level!

People have been making a big deal over his size, seemingly ignoring that his opposite number is the same height and only a few kilos heavier.

Ahh, but his opposite number is a big tough Irishman that has been chiseled from solid granite, eats nails for breakfast and uses a stihl saw for shaving whereas Coombs is a wee soft welshie that was carried up the Severn in a fairy liquid bubble (for extra soft hands), has museli for breakfast and uses dove men care.

:p

Coombs is ginger. Coombs is a big, angry ginger. Coombs wins.

Excellent video, it has to be said RTE make great rugby montages. If only I didn't have to listen to that dingbat Nugent.

Woo,I fookin love the Six Nations. I'm not confident at all by this, Wales have had our number for a while now. They've actually become the team I hate loosing to the most.
