Wales star Roberts out for six months

Scott probably won't make the tour lads. His injury looked pretty bad.

Hehehe... On a serious note maybe Adam Hughes, Adam Warren/Gareth Maule or an extra back three player/flyhalf like Tovey or Martyn Thomas. Gatland will probably try North out at 13.

North to 13 for a match would be interesting. I still feel that Foxy is best at 13 over 12.
Tovey and Thomas, no way! ;)

Didn't think it was meant to be too serious, and should be back before the end of the season.

Gatland may be tempted to try North at 13 at some stage, but I doubt it will be now. At the moment we're short on international quality wingers, so that's where he'll stay for the time being I'd imagine.

Yeah, makes no sense to move a player from an area of the field you've got no depth in, to an area where you have a ridiculous amount. Beck-Davies should now be carved into the team sheet.

Morgan will return by next season, and hopefully Harry Robinson and Luke Morgan will get more gametime.

Yes, but it worked. I think Beck might have a few more tricks, and will take his opportunity. He has a great shot here, potentially become the Welsh 12.
Beck-Davies does seem to be an exciting combination on paper. We never really did see Henson-Roberts, unfortunately.

Yes and I'm pointing out the negativity from your post to why he was ineffective. He may well have been but he allowed othes to have space because he was marked out of the game. Remember the downfall with Beck he is slight in build and needs to bulk. This was also told to him during the 6 Nations by Gatland and the fitness people in the Welsh setup. It was commented upon by the pundits the other night for the Ospreys game. He's good no doubt, be interesting to see how he would get on at international level if the skills don't come off, what his plan B would be.

Also North to 13 is a no. He's a winger and lets keep him there. No need to start moving him. It's a different game to learn at 13 and he's most effective on the wing.

Beck has bulked up over the past year. He is 190cm and 101kg, hardly small. Not to mention we can bring Cuthbert and North infield if we need a first phase wrecking ball.

I'm just going by what has been said to him.

Beck can crash it up just fine. Certainly more than Scott Williams anyway.

that is ridiculous, Beck is fine as he is

he is the same dimensions and similar body as Will Greenwood, and I don't think anybody ever said he had to bulk up

I hate it when coaches tell players who are excelling in club rugby to bulk up if they want to play international rugby, as it often harms their game (i.e. Mathew Tait).

I'd normally agree Olyy, but it doesn't seem to have harmed any of the current Welsh players. Most are bigger than ever, but at the same time they're all quicker than ever and are showing that they haven't lost any of their skill.

I think Beck is ready to slot into international rugby now, but if he can bulk up a little more, then that's a bonus. He doesn't rely heavily on out and out pace (unlike Tait at the time), so I can't see why bulking up will have a negative effect on his game, it will just add yet another string to his bow. I'm confident this current Welsh management will get the best out of him.

Saying all that, his weight shouldn't be used as a reason not to pick him in the Summer. He doesn't struggle in the slightest with the physical aspects of the game from what I've seen. He shrugs off plenty of tackles, and has got a big hand-off on both sides. Just one look at Hanno Dirksen shows that size isn't everything, he's not the biggest of chaps, but seems to always burst through tackles, and is a very physical player.

Scott Williams is 183cm and 97kg, Jonathan Davies is 185cm and 103kg and Jamie Roberts is 194cm and 110kg so in fairness at 190cm and 101kg there is not too much wrong with the size of Ashley Beck or difference to Williams or Davies, I think Williams just gets the nod over him to start due to experience on the international stage so far (not much difference but the fact he was preferred during the 6 nations).

Add to that hes not much smaller than Geroge North 194cm and 109kg and Alex Cuthbert 198cm aand 104kg either.

Dear god, I say something that's been told to him by the coaching staff of the WRU as well as many of the pundits and I get my head bitten off. Arglwydd.

Can you post a link? or is this just a "source" of yours. I don't really care what the pundits say tbh, BBC and S4C ones are pretty **** most of the time during the Pro12 season.

I'm hardly going to name the person involved in the setup, but when someone likes yourself comes along whats the point of sharing what is said. I've posted stuff in the past thinking people would like to know these things / appreciate them. Obviously I'll have to think twice in the future. To be honest lot of the pundits do talk sense Gwyn Jones, Rob Jones and Kingsley Jones to be fair. The likes of Derwyn Jones and Jiffy not always the best and overhype. But then you chose what you want to see and hear.

Mate, no one is having a go at you.
We are just discussing our opinions on what you have said, which nobody doubts.

Cymro is Warren Gatland, BTW. That's the source.
