Northmore went off with an HIA and didn't return. He didn't look like he knew what was going on afterwards either. I don't think he or Dan will be available next week.

I'd pick:

1. Rodd
2. Langdon
3. AOF (overplayed this season, but at this point...)
4. Ewels
5. Coles
6. Hill
7. Pepper
8. Willis

09. JvP
10. Ford (c)
11. Muir
12. SAtkinson
13. Ojomoh
14. Murley
15. Steward

16. Tuipulotu*, 17. Baxter, 18. Heyes, 19, CCS, 20. BCurry
21. Randall, 22. CAtkinson 23. Beard/Roebuck

* Not because he's next cab off the rank, but because any other option would have spent the last 4 weeks on a beach and just starting to think about ore-season in a couple of weeks time. KP is match fit and played as recently as Wednesday.

Hmmm
I'd forgotten that Clark and Carpenter are on tour, so Clark in for Coles, Carpenter at FB.
Also, is IFW still banned? If not, then I guess he probably starts alongside Murley.
CCS at 8?

I just don't really understand this mindset?

Even if he does pick the same squad with any enforced changes plus IFW swapping in on one of the wings, it's still a very inexperienced squad.

I feel like players like Willis, Baxter or Heyes are now regarded as established but they're still very early in their international careers. Last night’s lineup probably had less than 300 caps with Ford, Steward and Ewels making up well over half.

So do I and my lineup would be pretty much the same as yours in the OP. I just wouldn’t be overly critical if he doesn’t change much more than he has too.

FWIW, I think he will ring the changes though.

There might not be wholesale changes. Aside from His spreadsheets SB rates caps (experience) very highly and as BPM said, this is still a VERY green squad.

He'll want the ones he knows hes keeping in the senior squad to start building as much time on the pitch.

Plus it doesn't matter who you play. Developing that winning mentality is critical.

See I disagree. I feel like we have a gap in terms of caps between some of the first choice and then the second/third choice. I don't think we need to capping fourth choice players for example just to give them game time. I want to try and build an experienced squad for the WC and that means giving those likely to be in and around the 23 as much time as possible.

I'd go

1. Baxter
2. Langdon (assuming Dan is out, even then I'd go Langdon as I don't think Dan is good enough yet)
3. Heyes (him and Baxter could do with more experience. Opoku-Fordjour has more than enough time to get experience and I personally don't want to keep swapping caps between Baxter and Rodd)
4. Coles (3rd/4th choice so keep him playing)
5. Clark (I don't rate Ewels and I think if Isiekwe was going to been in with a chance he'd be picked more so here we can look for depth)
6. Curry (Need his experience)
7. Pepper (We know what Underhill can do, give him a rest before he hurts himself. Pepper has looked fantastic and deserves an opportunity)
8. Willis (Keep him playing)
9. JvP (Again, we know what Spencer can do and he's 32 already. Let's develop our depth here)
10. Ford (We need the experience and I don't see the point of capping Atkinson now when his game isn't good enough)
11. Feyi-Waboso (personally I'd rest him and let him get some form again domestically, but he's another Borthwick has hung his hat on, so he'll start)
12. Atkinson (get him as much exp as possible)
13. Ojomoh (If Northmore fit then I'd let him start as I feel he earnt it at the weekend)
14. Roebuck (I think he's clearly in the top 3 for Borthwick with IFW and Freeman so keep him playing)
15. Carpenter (This is one position I feel we can play with and Carpenter did well against France)

16. ??? (Whoever they call up)
17. Rodd
18. Opoku-Fordjour
19. Isiekwe
20. Underhill
21. Cunningham-South
22. Randall
23. Steward/Beard

Just seen that the USA lost to Spain over the weekend and changed my mind …

Without wanting to be disrespectful to the USA, it's probably at a similar level to (or lower!) than the recent A games against Australia and Ireland.

IIRC, the uncapped players with the squad are: Fasogbon, Clark, C. Atkinson, Ojomoh, Beard and Carpenter.

7 uncapped players in a 23 is a significant number. Particularly given there are several players in our last couple of match day squads with <5 caps. However, I'm not sure what we'll really learn from this fixture unless we do go experimental.

In the spirit of wanting to give everyone a game and give those with the least game time some more time on the field, my lineup would be:

1. Rodd
2. Langdon
3. Opoku-Fordjour
4. Isiekwe
5. Clark*
6. Hill
7. Pepper
8. Cunningham-South
9. van Poortvliet
10. Ford (c)
11. Murley
12. S. Atkinson
13. Ojomoh*
14. Feyi-Waboso
15. Carpenter*

16. TBC 17. Davison 18. Fasogbon* 19. Coles 20. Dombrandt 21. Randall 22. C.Atkinson* 23. Beard*

*uncapped

**I know Davison never plays loosehead anymore but it's the only way I can see to give him and Fasogbon some minutes.

Yeah, it’s a non match so give everyone a run out.

Yeah and it's not as though the lineup I've suggested is an insult. It's heavily rotated but there's still only 3 debutants in a starting XV led by a centurion fly half.

I'd like to see this team but I'd have Baxter on the bench, and Coles at 4 as I think in them getting gametime is better than the alternatives.

Yeah, I can see where you’re coming and I’m not usually one for sentimentality but I dislike the idea of players touring without getting a single minute.

Yeah same. Nice to see everyone in the right positions, I'd feared we would have CCS at lock and the backrow all over the shop

Some cover at 10 is nice.
