Hi,
Wasn't quite sure where to put this thread. I am about to chose my Uni choices and in my head I have two choices and I wouldn't mind some advice.
The choice is between Politics and sports science with rugby studies.
The rugby studies sounds almost too good to be true. I enjoy rugby hugely and always sorta wanted to pursue a career in it and when Ulster dropped me I knew I was never gunna get on the pitch as a player. It says "This degree has developed excellent links with London Wasps and the Rugby Football Union and prepares students for a career in the rugby industry. The programme includes a practical introduction to sports management. Students gain the knowledge needed to gain employment in the rugby sector. Areas covered include sport management, coaching skills, contemporary issues in sport, legal issues related to sport, and business management. Students will apply business management concepts to the rugby industry". Now this sounds brilliant, but the problem is would I really be able to achieve a solid earning with this and also its in England and costs £7500 yearly for three years. My life is in NI including family, girlfriend, friends and everything else. I have never been to england and know nobody in the "Bucks" area.
Second choice is Politics in NI, harder to get into and I'd say more challenging (I'm assuming this because I live in Northern Ireland and politics here is ****ing retarded) and not as interesting but at least I have solid career choice and it would only cost 3000 a year. I'll be closer to home and know people. So I am caught between passion and safety, I could really do with some feedback or advice it is my future and I'm pulling my hair out of my head.
Thanks if anyone replys I know this isn't interesting but I really don't have anyone to ask my girlfriend and friends are basis so I can't really ask them.
Cheers!

if your IQ is high i would choose sports
if its low however you're qualified for being the head of any and every country..

Can it be English and learn about paragraph structure? :p

Damn right it will

Where 'bouts you thinking of going Uni wise

Well I'd like to stay in northern ireland and go to Queens/Jordanstown or do the rugby in Buckingham or Glamorgan (which I guess is in Wales somewhere lol)

I'd go with Politics , I've seen a few of these Rugby courses and they never struck me to be as good as they are bigged up to be , I could be incorrect in this instance however.

at the same time following heart before head is often the right choice ..if you're stuck with a career you've no ****ing interest in then you're life is going to not be quite stimulating on a daily basis.

At the same time leaving your family and missus (if you've been with her a while) is shite and could be something you'll regret too.

But at the end of the day we're all going to die , that's why you should fill your time with whatever makes you happiest.

Dunno if the rugby goes wrong I could be stuck in England with no friends or job and if I choose politics I won't enjoy it as much but I'll have a decent living.

Is it that you wouldn't really enjoy Politics at all are that it just doesn't seem that good compared to rugby?

Yeah if I left that means a 3 year relationship will go down the toilet, which is probably my main influence for wanting to stay but I don't know that if it crumbles and I choose politics I will be very very ******

Relationships do crumble I've been through it indeed I'm still madly in love with my ex...

But if you want her then stay. But don't assume it's fated to last could well end up with the bird but sometimes **** just happens.

As I said always do what makes you happy every day.

Best piece of advice you'll ever get that.

Personally I would go with Politics. It's financially better, you'll be with your girlfriend, friends and family, and Queens is still a very good Uni. You might end up enjoying Politics, Rugby studies is a bit of a stab in the dark, will it earn you a stable income / job when you finish? £7500 p.a is a massive amount for a risk

Sorry if this doesn't help - but what A levels did you do? Is there no other course you could consider?

It just doesn't compare to it at all.
Not to mention I will disappoint my family, my eldest sister is a Doctor and second eldest is doing a phd in child psychology, me studying sports would look bad for my family but I am not as bright as my sisters.
I swear I have more problems with this than the rest of the people I know lol

ICT, Politics and History on a B for all of them, no other courses really jump out

Every comment helps cheers.

£7500... god I feel sorry for you lot that have to come into Uni with the ridiculous new fees!

Rugby studies does sound a hell of a lot of fun to me, does seem like you could get some tidy marketable skills out of it, even if you dont end up with a job in / around rugby. That said I have no idea what kind of jobs you can get out of a politics degree, seems that so many people do it, but never figured out where they all end up after they graduate?

Glamorgan Uni is a good one for Sports.

Up to you. I would check the prospectuses of the universities you are interested in and try and go to their open day to see what the uni and area is like.

Yeah choose wisely. I regret choosing Southampton Solent over my ideal choice of Leeds. Went for Solent as it was the only one I visited

Is Computer Science interesting to you in any way? If you got a decent grade in GCSE math you should be able to get into Queens with a B in ICT
