Twickenham pubs in early closing fear ahead of Rugby World Cup

Rubbish!!! I had to walk past bars to get to my seat at Biarritz and the Spanish guys in front of me always had beer with them when they sat down and at half time!!

Last time I was at Stade de Feance they were selling beer too......

Fans who like a drink should be aware that not only do drinks at Stade de France come at an inflated price, they are also alcohol-free - including the beer! There are pop-up stands outside the ground where you can get a pint, at typical Parisian prices.

Have been to SdeF on a number of occasions for rugby matches but mot for concerts. Numerous bars inside selling water and non alcoholic beers. There are usually fast food tents on the approach ramp to the stadium selling the usual overpriced crap.

England fans inside the Stade de France were staggered to discover they were being served alcohol-free beer.
The 250,000 pints consumed inside the stadium were 0 per cent proof, despite costing £6.50 a pint and not being advertised as alcohol-free.

Even children are comfortable running around. Maybe one reason for this is simply because there is only non-alcoholic beer on the grounds. Yuck! Sure you can get a cup of tea (no milk sorry) or a soda, but celebratory beers will have to wait.

n the Stade, Le Panoramique restaurant through Gate T in the West Stand serves from its 8th-floor vantage point weekdays 8am-2pm. Menus begin at €30. More affordable is Le 98 in the East Stand (Gate E), also weekday lunchtimes only (11.45am-2.15pm), with menus at €7 and €11, and self-service dishes at around €10. For matches, the beer on sale at the 60 outlets around the ground is alcohol-free.

jean Bouin and Parc des prince is also dry.

This is nothing to do with concerns over public disorder.
Although there is no direct linkage, it must (IMO) have everything to do with pressure from Heineken, who will still be serving well before (including outside official twickers boundaries) and well after the game in the stadium parameters.

After Saturday's game with France local pubs were either:
1. Open having ignored the request
2. Open, oblivious to the request
3. Closed, against their will. Seeing it as anything but 'voluntary' as the RFU, Richmond Council and Met have insisted

I imagine there are a few concerned residents as the only previous international 8pm KO at twickenham I can remember is Eng v Sam last year. Xmas 'Big game' and LDH never go this late? Maybe there has been previous trouble with twickenham being used as a concert venue which obviously ends late. However, I think these concerns have likely been hijacked and used as an excuse.

Won't affect any games played in daytime/early evening like this one (KO 4.45). Only 8pm Kick offs. So QF, SF, Final unaffected. Wouldn't be surprised if the goalposts get moved again though.

If you are in the pub before 10pm you can stay till last orders, which is almost (but not quite) impossible for a 8pm KO. I do love a good lock-in.

Just to be clear. I have not put anyone under any pressure...

same in FRANCE, non-alcoholic beer only.

Paris is not FRANCE...... There are other places that make up the country although hardly to a Parisienne I suppose! Mind you the rest of France knows how to behave.....

Twickenham has always had a great atmosphere in the local pubs when a game is on but perhaps that is on the way out now.

which is exactly what i said after Gaston replied... but stade de france is certainly dry.

It's a little depressing to hear that the Stade de France is dry, as that was the excuse I've been using for the (majority, not universal) poor behaviour of supporters the admittedly only time I was there. Utterly tribal, biased and in your face. Maybe that's unfair, if I hadn't been on the losing end I might have enjoyed it the atmosphere.

So in that respect I can see why restricting alcohol might be a good idea when the games mean so much more (at a World Cup).

Good news. The ban has been overturned. Richmond Council have seen sense.

So somebody has turned the light on at last. Well done Richmond council for recognising that not all sports fans are behave the same.
