Tri- Nations Talent - New Zealand

Pick the Winner. (here's a hint: it's the AB's)

I'd smash Sione (and Hame as well) but he only picks on Girls.

Wouldn't catch Zack.

Re: Guildford & Gear.

Both are good wingers but

It's not about how good you are in Super 15 Jersey.
It's about how GREAT you are in a Test Jersey.

The stats seem a little suspect, but I'd have to look at every game he has played to try and argue against it, so I'll take the stats as red. I guess we'll see if Hosea Gear is as good at this level as I think he is. His biggest criticism has so far been that he hasn't scored a try in the 100 minutes he has been on the field against Australia, so we'll see if he impresses on Saturday. I think everyone will admit that Gear and Guildford are two very different types of players, each with different skill sets. I think it very much depends on what you want and value from your winger.

I think most of the criticism is directed at his defense, his work rate, and whether he can kick when it's needed ... no one doubts his ability with ball in hand.
... good luck to Hosea on Saturday, the wingers are in good form, and the competition seems to be bringing the best out in each others play.

Clearly New Zealand was not the least successful conference and we came very close to having three teams in the playoffs untill the highlanders blew up.

Back three debate;
15. Dagg 14. Jane 11. Gear

The selectors did a good job selecting an experienced side the first two tri nation games against wallabies and springboks shows it.

1. Dagg is a playmaker with the ball, both on the return and as part of the back line in set plays (reminds me of Beale). My only concern would be his youth/inexperience.
2. Maitland is certainly not much of a defensive force, but as arguably the most explosive Winger NZ has, I don't see how he wasn't given more opportunity.
3. I don't see much difference between Nonu and SBW, but that Nonu is much more experienced and therefore, more reliable.

4. Guildford is undoubtedly a solid player, I just don't see anything particularly special about him. Is he faster than Maitland at straight line running?
5. Can someone go into detailed analysis of Jane as well as Conrad and Ben Smith? I don't see what makes them so highly rated.

Well to start with:

If you've watched many games in which Cory Jane has played for the All Blacks, he's been one of the most consistant and dangerous attackers in world rugby. Hs plays fullback for the Hurricanes, so on the wing he's got very good core skills. He takes the high ball probably better than any other winger in world rugby, he has a very good kicking game, and his counter attacking has been exceptional. He also reads the gaps very well. Probably his best asset is his fend, which is undoubtably one of the best in world rugby. He keeps the opposition at an arms length and then pushes them off. Just some of his tries for the All Blacks.

As for Conrad Smith, everything he does makes him brilliant. He organises the defense perfectly, makes pretty much every tackle and contests for the ball. He is very strong which people don't seem to realize. He makes so many breaks for the All Blacks just off of picking the right holes to run into. He can also finish tries very well. He's the fittest All Black this year at least. He just never makes a mistake, and makes everyone else on the field look exceptional. In terms of how he scores tries:

As for Ben Smith, he's just been a very solid player this season for the Highlanders. He counter attacks well from fullback, creates play well, kicks well etc.

None of the players you have mentioned are speedsters, they just make the right decisions at the right times.

As for is Guildford faster than Maitland. At a guess, hell no.

Very impressive. This is exactly what I was hoping for.
Thanks, really appreciate it.
