Last season we had Bjorn Basson and Andre Taylor equal with 10 tries each, with Julian Savea and Sona Taumalolo only one try behind. Who do people think will be at the top of the try scoring charts this season?

My pick is Johnny McNicholl. Yes it is a bit random (as he is yet to debut), but he is all but guaranteed a start on the wing for the Crusaders (especially with Guildford out for most of, if not all, the season). Crusaders wings usually score a few tries too, and McNicholl was the top scorer during the ITM Cup season.

Lelia Masaga ;) I think he would've been top (or thereabouts) last season if he hadn't been out injured for such a large chunk of it, I think he played only around 10 full games, managing six tries in those.

I'm ganna go with Julian Savea or Bjorn Basson. Julian Savea because he's looked in great form and the Hurricanes have tended to score a lot with their outside backs - and Basson because he's continually been the top try scorer for the last two seasons, finishing with 9 in 2011 and 10 in 2012.

Not convinced with Masaga being top try scoerer. Really rate they guy - but there were times last season he wasn't considered first choice right wing. Unless DR has changed his mind.

Yeah, Savea for me. But it's hard to go past Taumalolo ;)

I'm gonna add my vote to Bjorn Basson. But I think that there will be one in each conference being up there. This is due to the fact that each conference have some tough teams, and also some poor teams. teams like the Rebels, Force, and the Southern Kings will assist other teams in getting big scores.

Bjorn Basson, Julian Savea and maybe someone like Drew Mitchell?

I'm going to go with Savea was impressed by the canes lat year hope they continue to improve and give him some chances.

Taumalolo is gone.

Im going to go with Andre Taylor and my bolter will be Izzy Folau!

It will be interesting to see how he goes - I'm a bit worried he will be starved of ball though, as the Waratahs tend to play a very conservative style of play.

Not sure whether he will be near the top of the try scoring charts, but I'm picking he will be close to the top of the broken leg charts yet again....

Folau will go well. He scored 2 tries on his debut. He's big, quick & skillful. With his new found footy skills, should make an excellent fullback.

My guess at top try scorers per team and for Israel Folau to take it on his debut season

Julian Savea - Hurricanes
Israel Folau - Warrathas
Jan Serfontein - Bulls
Johnny McNicholl - Crusaders
Willlie le Roux - Cheethas
Ronnie Cooke - Southern Kings
Lwazi Mvovo - Sharks
Brian Habana - Stormers
Henry Speight - Brumbies
Dom Slipperley - Reds
Rene Ranger - Blues
Leila Massage - Chiefs
Alfi Mafi - Force
Ben Smith - HIghlanders
James O'Connor - Rebels

I have no doubt he has the potential to be a superb Rugby Union player, I just don't expect it will happen over night (or even this season). It usually takes players switching codes quite some time to adjust - I reckon he will really struggle with many of the positional aspects of fullback play in his first season if he is played there (as this takes many players years to master). He will certainly be pretty handy under the high ball though, so I expect to see the Waratahs use the bomb as a bit of an attacking weapon this season.

I'll go with a straight shoot-out between Basson and Savea simply because they are at the end of teams who score tries. Bulls have been top try scorers and 2nd last 2 years with Basson topping it and the Hurricanes will continue their try scoring form from last year IMO.

Others I think will be up there;

Andre Taylor - Hurricanes
Raymond Rhule - Cheetahs
Charles Piutau - Blues
Izzy Dagg - Crusaders
Hosea Gear - Highlanders
Francois Hougaard - Bulls (I'm backing him to find his form again and score a few from 9)

I expect the hurricanes to score a lot of tries again, a backline run by TJP and Barrett and finished by Savea and Taylor with two very smart and skillful players in between (bateman and conrad Smith)

Masanga has a lot of tries in him but I dont think he fits into Dave Renee's plans so much, he was mostly a bench man last year and still scored a lot of tries. would often only get 20min or less a game and still managed to score.

For me, it's got to be Andre Taylor again. He is an absolute try scoring machine and, even though I really hate it when people talk about X factor, he actually has something special. For me, future all black without doubt.
