For me the current lay out is good and I don't have any complaints

It's hard to get a balance right. We've had it this way for three years now, but it's hard to not get it cluttered. It's not perfect I admit, and I am open to suggestions to make it more compact.

Use the 'View new posts' button on the top right. I never really go through the different sections looking for posts, unless I'm finding one in particular that hasn't been commented in for a few days.
