Todays Testing Of Rc2006 At Swordfish

Not much I can really add to what lox has said, as my journalistic friend has pretty much covered everything.

Just to say that the game is ALL class and I really think that people are going to struggle to justify not liking this game. It really is hard to pick any MAJOR faults with it.

Bear in mind that me and lox are League nuts and so a union game has to work extra hard to convince us its a good un.

Dont like the lineouts though, ( Not a nice feeling to know you have got Trev inside your head )

P.S I REALLY, REALLY like last minute drop goals

Whats the control layout like this time?

I seem to remember in WCR that sidestep was L1-R1, which were the pass buttons, so you could easily chuck the ball into touch as often as spin round the fullback - while I think L2 and/or R2 were unused.

Controls (From what I remember) PS2 version

ATTACK - General Play

L1/R1 - pass left/right (Double tap for a miss pass)
R2/ TRIANGLE/R3 - Sprint
X - Punt/Bomb/Grubber
Square - Drop Goal
Circle - Fend
L1 follwed by R1 - SideStep

ATTACK - Rucks.

X - Put men in Ruck
Circle - Take men out
L2 - Drop back into pocket
Triangle - Box Kick
Square - Pick up and run
L1/R1 - Pass left/right

DEFENCE

Move into player - Stand up tackle
X - Standard tackle
Square - Block/low tackle
Circle - Big Hit
Triangle/R2/R3 - Sprint
L1 or R1 - Change player

I take your point about being able to throw the ball in touch instead of siderstepping in WCR, but I can say that it only happened ONCE for me during our games yesterday... and that's because I was panicking.

Bit worried now.

1. are there any backline moves?

Not set plays as such, but the Ai is fantastic at operating the backline around your player. Loops & positioning are fantastic.

2. can mauls be steered?

Forwards and backwards only I think

3. any more button mashing?

Nope. All gone. Eradicated. Dead. Done away with.

4. are there any new try scoring animations?

Yep, quite a few, including showing off.

5. do they have high tackles?

Nope

6. do the tackle animations stop you from drawing and passing like R2005

Nope. It's much more finely tuned and well balanced now. I hated the whole animation thing with WCR, where they'd stop you even though they were miles from you. That's changed.

thats amazing news, is there any news on demo's,screenshots or videos
Only that anything like that would come from Swordfish and Swordfish alone. No news apart from that.

Anyway what do you need videos for ? We have told you its all class

Quick lineouts - NO

Ref is similar to WCR, except that the ref this time round is a LEGEND from Jonah Lomu Rugby.

Trev will fill you in on this.

Let's just say I was gutted that this person was away on holiday when we went yesterday!
<

As for players coming out the tunnel, it doesn't happen in RC2006. Well actually, it might do, but we skipped all the intro bits. Animation for scoring etc is superb, as is the whole anims throughout the game.
