Where is Nakarawa expected to play? There seems to be a suggestion that he could be in the back row as a direct replacement for Coetzee

You don't have to put him at number 8 to have him replace Coetzee's ball-carrying ability, he can do that from the second row. Having said that, he played number 8 for Racing and won European Player of the Year.

You'd think 4. Henderson 5. Carter 8. Nakarawa would be better than any of the other options with the current squad. If they get Deegan it could be a different story.

He was announced as a backrow.
Cheers didnt realise that. I just always think of him as a lock.

It's a bit of a risk by Ulster considering his problems at racing but as it's a 1 year deal its seems like a smart risk. Ulster are a well coached team and a player like him in good form could be the bit of x factor they need to push on. Similar to Glasgow when he was there. Think Ulster could still do with a really physical forward to get go forward ball when they are finding it hard.

Anybody heard anything on who might replace peel? Would be great to get an irish coach maybe someone who is overseas at the moment. I dont have anyone in mind except prendergast but can't imagine he'd be interested

Apparently both Doak and Payne applied for the assistant coach role at least.

Jack McGrath getting his hip resurfaced. Doesn't sound pleasant.

Pretty sure his hip has been bothering him since 2018 which would go a long way to explaining his drop off. Massive pity.

Jeepers, sounds bad, if there's a way back from it, you'd hope the best for him

A man that big will struggle to return to his previous level carrying around a hip like that.

Louis Ludik is retiring at the end of the season.

Was very good over the years for Ulster. Very dependable.

4 covid cases in Ulster squad, match cancelled

Yeah shame about ludik, he's been very good the last few year a, so solid, but the young boys have pushed him out it seems

Loane Nakarawa's move to Ulster has fallen through, as a result of a medical examination.

Adam McBurney is leaving to join Edinburgh - apparently he's Scottish qualified. We have cover for Herring at hooker with John Andrew and Brad Roberts both having had good seasons.

Also leaving: Kyle McCall, Alby Mathewson (Dave Shanahan has re-established himself as second choice scrum half, and Nathan Doak looks promising, so 9 is covered), Matt Faddes (we have plenty of wingers so long as they all stay fit, and he hasn't had much game time lately).

Also, news of a couple of ex-Ulster out-halves. Johnny McPhillips is leaving Leicester to join Carcassonne in the French second division, and Brett Herron is out of contract at Harlequins.

McBurney really never kicked on from early promise, unfortunate enough. Remember Joe Schmidt name-dropping him back in the day. Hopefully Edinburgh goes well and we get him back in two years time.

Herron also well below Prem level - wouldn't be surprised to see him back in the champ or more likely PrD2

Big things expected of Tom Stewart as well. Think he's been injured a lot this season though.
