The Official TRF International Shield

I have a feeling Munster may take it from the AB's. No offence Wales.[/b]

You might have been on to something if we played our first team, but our Irish Internationals won't be released to play in this game. The most I can hope for is a respectful defeat unfortunately :( .

Surely Munster should be excluded as its an International Tournament.

On a side point, I'm surprised no one is commenting on Irelands proven record in winning "mickey mouse" trophies.

If its not worth winning, we'll inevitably win it.

*When i say mickey mouse, I'm not knocking the shield itself.[/b]

The TRF shield is much higher in prestige values then the EDF cup ever will be!

You must be f***ing joking!

It would have been very unlikely but Munster would have been closer to the AB's than Ireland have gotten over the last few years at any rate!

I believe Munster is better than the Irish national side....better team cohesion can
often beat a team who may have better individuals.

However as getofmeland said.....TRFIS is only competed in International games.

I like how the shield system has its basis as a system that rewards the new winner with bragging rights as "We beat the team that beat the team that beat the team that beat the team that beat the team that beat you.  Therefore we are better than you"

Right ladies and gents, the RWC has come and gone, and the champions have been crowned. Naturally, the Springboks will remain the World Champions for the next 4 years. But we at TRF feel that it is necessary to also incorporate another international competition, based loosely around the idea that to be the champ, you`ve got to beat the champ. And also to add some more spice to the international calendar, especially to the May and November cross-hemisphere test matches.

Seeing as TRF are generally well ahead of the game, we have decided to exceed the authority of the IRB and create our own tournament- the TRF International Shield. It works like this- as the current RWC winners, the Springboks become the 1st official holders of the TRF International Shield. But, unlike the RWC ***le, this shield is up for grabs every test you play. That`s right- every single time!

So the Boks take on Wales in Cardiff on 24 November 2007. This will be their 1st defense of the ***le. If Wales wins this match, they will become the new holders of the TRF International Shield, to be defended in their next outing. If the Boks win or draw, they will retain their ***le. Which will then be put up for defense in their next encounter, and so forth.

The rules are simple- all full international test matches between individual countries will be considred. This excludes invitational sides like the BaaBaas or a World XV. It also excludes combined test teams like the Lions and the combined PIRA team.

So, come 24 November, who will be the official holders- the reigning champion Bokke, or the challengers, Wales?[/b]

See above

I prefer to describe it as "to be the man, you've gotta beat the man". But yeah, that other way works.

The fact that Doug Howlett is better then every other back in Ireland put together may also have something to do with it...!

by that logic, and in keeping with the idea of the shield, if Doug howlett is better than every other back in Ireland put together, and the Irish backline (which ever one we **** out onto the pitch) is better than lets say the English backline then it becomes quite apparent that, considering Doug Howlett couldnt make the NZ team, each NZ back on his own, is infinitely superior to the the entire NH rugby playing population.

However a team of French rugby players defeated NZ in the world cup. This French team was then defeated by the Welsh who were in turn defeated by the Boks. The boks were then defeated by the NZ who ...................... :wall:

Ahhh **** it ............. I'm off to invaderise iraqistan!

Yay the All Blacks have now equalled the South African record of 5 consequetive successes. We just have to win next week to hold the new sheild record. Might be a tough ask though after looking at the form of the teams this weekend.

Yeh. I bet the AB's will be spiteful by losing to Ireland on purpose just so that when Wales arsherape them the following week, we won't win it. <_<

:p

Looking forward to seeing England Take Hold of the shield for the end of the year, ready to hand it on a plate to Italy in the Six Nations!!!

wait so if by some miracle munster take it it may never see an international match again...maybe it should be confined to tests i couldnt stand to here the bandwagon jumpers after that...

No. It's only contested between international sides, excluding Barbarians, Lions etc...

Then if Italy play someone like Romania and lose.....well two years from now it might end up with Croatia....

....so Croatia would have beaten the team than beat all this other (team x 6) that beat the All Blacks...who beat the Wallabies....who beat the RWC champions.  Croatia would be a force to reckon with lol!

I see Ireland as having a VERY good chance of beating the All Blacks.  However how many other Irish teams have had the All Blacks on the ropes....only to eventually stuff it up.  I remember when that Irish No2 Keith Wood scored whereJonah couldn't stop him I thought "Oh dear...how are the All Blacks gonna get out of this one".....but in the end it was another comfortable Irish victory after John Mitchell said to the boys "Cometh the hour, cometh the man".

South Africa, Australia, England, France, Wales are the only countries in history to have defeated the All Blacks.  This would have to be one of the shortest "loss" lists in any international sport that have been competed for over a time period over 100 years.  Every Irish international knows that when they play against the All Blacks they are playing to create history.  Some Irish players who are living legends already like Brian O'Driscoll have tasted victory against every country they have faced.....except the black one.  That one victory against the men in black would probably be more satisfying than a hollow RWC triumph where they never played NZ.

Anyway.....this weekend is for the Irish squad another shot at Mount Everest.  It can be conquered....nothing is impossible...especially when it is a chance to be part of history.
