Nalaga's career started explosively in the U19 World Cup, where he scored 7 tries in 3 matches, playing as a centre. He then played for Fiji U21's and then Sevens, and he was then signed up by Clermont Auvergne at the end of the 2006/07 season.
He really made his impact in France in the second half of the 2007/08 season, he had to wait until January for his first start due to the presence of giants Aurélien Rougerie and Julien Malzieu occupying the wings. He then tore apart the Top 14 scoring an incredible 18 tries in 14 starts, setting a Top 14 record for tries in a season which was previously held by Rougerie.
He showed no sign of slowing down in 2008/09 either, breaking his try scoring record, he scored 21 tries in 19 starts and forcing Rougerie into the centres. He was named the best player in the Top 14 of the 2008/09 season.
However 2009/10 was a relative disappointment for him, scoring just 8 tries, and in 2010 he was looked out of sorts.
Then after returning to Fiji to get married at Christmas time 2010, and then revelations came out that his fiancee had a nasty car crash, and Nalaga was suffering from depression, his club Clermont sent out their head coach Vern Cotter to find him on a week off, but Nalaga stayed depressed, and Clermont showed their concern for him, saying that this case was not at all like some other notable cases involving Fijian wingers going missing. His contract was terminated in March however though.
But then in April a journalist from French rugby bible Midi Olympique travelled out to interview Nalaga, and the story was in fact, that he had fallen out with his mother, who he should of walked down the aisle with.
"Napo" or "Naps" as he is known to those that know him wanted to marry his girlfriend who he had a child with and had known for two years, and then return to France to continue to play for Clermont Auvergne.
But Nalaga's mother wasn't having it and wanted him to marry the daughter of a wealthy family.
Then came a revelation that his accident story and his depression was made up by Nalaga's "entourage" to buy time to sort the situation out. Which was made more complicated by the fact his mother had the right to block his bank account under Fijian law, and the Fijian courts then stopped him from leaving Fiji until an agreement had been reached.
Nalaga has been quoted as saying he wants to return to play for Clermont Auvergne after playing for Fiji in the World Cup, and with his girlfriend and his son, leave his mother behind.
Nalaga is now currently training with the Fiji Police Rugby team in Suva. Probably to maintain his fitness before playing for Fiji in the World Cup.
His first game for the Police HQ team will be against the Western Force Police team at Nasova ground tomorrow (4th May)
