Hello, I'm doing a study for Swansea University into the experience of Welsh supporters at the Millennium Stadium. If you have any opinions as to how you feel about the stadium, such the atmosphere it generates at a big rugby international or the feeling of national identity and pride the stadium provides for Wales it would be great to hear from you. Many thanks. Andy

Born and living in Swansea myself mate :p Personally I think its a hell of a stadium, love the fact that the crowd are mixed- makes a great atmosphere as banter goes between fans, I know i'm being biased as i'm Welsh but the songs and chants we come out with in a packed stadium is incredible. Like I was at the Wales vs England game on August 13th, one of the only times I've nearly shead a tear signing the national anthem, it sent shivers down my spine, i've been to many live Wales games before but Wales vs Englands atmosphere was simply incredible.

Nope on the riots.. for football they take seats out and seperate fans, rugby its mixed.

Anyways the atmosphere with a full stadium with the roof closed is pretty awesome tbf

I love how in rugby matches you get mixed supporters. Last February me and my ex (me being welsh her being english) went to Wales/England. Surrounded by a mix of welsh and english. Friendly banter from my experience. Personally i find the atmosphere to be greater with the roof closed. It becomes a sound chamber, and due to the acoustics it really does create an amazing buzz - Hen Wlad fy Nhadau is electric when there; gets me tearful every time :D :D

Atmosphere is different for football matches, but a lot has to do with the natural nature of the crowd present.

Great to see another Swansea Uni student on here :D Personally, I love the atmosphere of the Millenium Stadium, there's just nothing quite like it in my opinion! The closed roof does see to add something extra as well, kinda like it's keeping all the excitement within the stadium. Some of my favourite experiences there have been Wales v New Zealand in 2008 with the whole standoff after the Haka, the atmosphere was electric for the entire game after that! Went to the game vs Australia in 08 too, that was a great atmosphere too, especially since Wales won a tight game! Also one of the things that really gives the Millenium Stadium an awesome reputation is it's location, both rugby and football fans have said they think it's fantastic because it's slap bang in the middle of the city centre, with pubs and shops all around! I love to go into Cardiff on a match day even if I don;t have tickets, simply to soak in the brilliant atmosphere on the streets. Don't agree with Logorrhea about the stadium having 'restricted visibility seats', I've been to a hell of a lot of games there, and been seated all over the place, and never once felt like I couldn't see what was going on.

Also, a question for you Andy, did you go to the Cardiff Uni v Swansea Uni Varisty match in the Stadium earlier this year? I had my concerns about the match being held in a 74,000 seater stadium, when it would end up being mostly empty. However, I was completely wrong and the 15,000 Swansea and Cardiff students made the atmosphere simply incredible! Probably one of best atmospheres I've had there (did help that I'd had a fair few pints and Swansea won :p), and I've heard it's being held in Cardiff and the Millenium again next year. Was a little bit gutted that it won't be in Swansea this year, but it's still going to be brilliant taking over the capital city again with the Green and White army :D.

Thanks for your comment mate. No I missed the Varsity this year. First in 4 years I've missed. Was good at the Liberty last year. Would like to have gone this year but Masters timetables means we're the only ones in lectures on Wednesday afternoons. :p I heard it was decent though. I was a little concern that such a huge stadium would feel empty but like you said and I've heard from others the atmosphere was still very good. I think it's there again next year. Graduating in January but I might still try and get tickets. Varsity is a fantastic event for both Swansea and Cardiff.

I remember being at the Wales Australia game few years back, we had got a few spares from Dunvant RFC and we launched into a less than tasteful song about Matilda, the 10 Aussies in front applauded and replied with something about Deliah. Was great fun, then we won the game so we got last laugh.

I love the Millenium Stadium, theres something about being in a big Stadium, The Millenium, Wembley, Twickers, Lords, The Mem :)lol:), that gives you the shivers as soon as you get into it. The anthem sounded awesome against NZ in Nov. Can't wait until I go back.

I absolutely love the stadium. It's a real focal point in the middle of Cardiff. It's great how accessible it was. Once down a couple of years ago and made a weekend of it. The atmosphere inside was fantastic, much better for having the roof closed. It was really nice to see the NZ players walking through the streets to the stadium too. Shame we lost mind!
