We're half way and though the Stormers have 1 less games played and Lions 1 more I thought it might be interesting to see who people consider the best in each position at this stage.
My picks:
Tendai Mtawarira The Sharks are struggling to find a place for John Smit but the impact the Beast makes is too great to have him on the bench. Sharks should rather play their top XV IMO
Bismarck du Plessis 3 tries for a front rower is the most but that hardly starts to explain his worth; an extra loose forward at the tackle and breakdown and a monster when it comes to ggenerating go-forward ball.
Owen Franks
Mark Chisholm
Andries Bekker
Adam Thomson MVP of the SXV so far IMO. He just pops up everywhere. It will be interesting to see if he gets a spot in the All Blacks for the RWC. If he keeps this work rate up he certainly deserves it
Willem Alberts
Liam Messam
Will Genia I was tempted to go for Sarel Pretorius but Genia makes those outside him look good. That and Pretorius is a liability on defense
Quade Cooper Carter the only other contender IMO but hasn't played that many games really
Bjorn Basson being joint 2nd highest try scorer while playing for an underperforming Bulls team.. pity he gets such limited opportunities
Sonny Bill Williams a bit quieter in the last 2 rounds but still gotta give it to him
Jared Payne
Rene Ranger creates as much as he finishes himself. prone to make some errors but I'd still include him above others if I had to make selections (at least at this level). Maitland and Poki unlucky
Isaia Toeava
