I was thinking of a new idea, what is your conference XV? I am mostly focussed on the SA conference so will only give a SA Conference XV.

1. Dean Greyling (Bulls)
Has been massive this season and deserves his inclusion in the Bok squad. Still young but a serious contender for the prop position later on this decade in the Green.
2. Bismarck du Plessis (Sharks)
No explanation needed. Best hooker in the country, possibly the best hooker in the world with Mealamu
3. Jannie du Plessis (Sharks)
With CJ van der Linde out, there is no real prop contending Jannie. Werner Kruger and WP Nel were good, but Jannie has more experience and the Sharks really missed him when he was out
4. Rynhardt Elstadt (Stormers)
The biggest surprise this season. A Cinderella story come true. Comes out of nowhere, surprises the world and keeps Anton van Zyl and Adriaan Fondse out of the line-up. Great partnership with Andries Bekker
5. Andries Bekker (Stormers)
Victor Matfield might have had the upper-hand when they played each other in Cape Town 2 weeks ago, but overall, Bekker has been outstanding. He is the true leader of the Stormers. Despite Schalk Burger being the captain on paper, Andries Bekker has shown rugby is not played on paper. He was the captain on the field
6. Keegan Daniel (Sharks)
Having played almost every match, Keegan Daniel has shown some skill, despite his lack of physical strength. He is far more consistent than Deon Stegmann and concedes almost no penalties.
7. Francois Louw (Stormers)
Is maybe the least visible player on the field with the Stormers but he is true class. Being a real threat on attack and more than decent on defence, he has shown more than Dewald Potgieter for instance, or Willem Alberts.
8. Duane Vermeulen (Stormers)
Okay, he got injured against the Cheetahs, but he has been true class so far and a serious option for the Bok squad at the World Cup. He has the strength of Spies, the versatility of Kankowski and is still young. Hate to admit it, but Vermeulen outclassed Kankowski twice this season
9. Sarel Pretorius (Cheetahs)
top try-scorer this season, Sarel has been massive for the Cheetahs in their season. With wins over the Crusaders, Waratahs, Brumbies and scoring 4 tries against the Hurricanes, they have shown they can be deadly on attack. Sarel has been poor on defence, but his team-mates compensated that.
10. Patrick Lambie (Sharks)
I was going for Sias Ebersohn, who replaced Naas Olivier with verve this season. However, Patrick Lambie has been the missing link when the Sharks were off-form. Having played at full-back against the Bulls, he showed he can do more than play fly-half, despite that being his best position. His way of distributing the ball, having an eye for gaps and a solid boot for the kicks at goal, give him the edge over Morne Steyn.
11. Bjorn Basson (Bulls)
Moved to Pretoria after a successful season with Griquas, breaking the Currie Cup try scoring record, and has been his usual self. Scored plenty of tries, was good on attack and is a great chaser. Serious threat to Habana for the no. 11 Bok-jersey
12. Doppies La Grange (Lions)
I know, Jean de Villiers was good, but Doppies La Grange was even better. Being the captain of the Lions, he has shown great leadership with some good come-backs this season. If the Lions can build on guys like him, Taute, Strauss, Whiteley and Vermaak, great things are possible in Johannesburg
13. Robert Ebersohn (Cheetahs)
His twin-brother just fell short, but the Ebersohn-family can be proud. Robert did splendidly in the Cheetahs backline and partnering with Corne Uys, he was truly remarkable. In attack and defence he was very consistent
14. JP Pietersen (Sharks)
Has shown great potential for years and has bulked up. He is not the fragile, skinny runner he was in '07 when he was part of the Bok team that won the Webb Ellis Cup. He is strong, still fast and a very clever runner. His kicking is poor, but he is a winger, so I prefer a runner over a kicker (Not a Bulls fan haha)
15. Riaan Viljoen (Cheetahs)
Scoring a 65 meter dropgoal shows some guts and his play has been superb throughout the season. Running, kicking, place-kicking. All have been well. He is set to leave Griquas and if he doesn't move overseas, there will be a fierce battle to determine if he will move north, east of west.

Other notable players:
Warren Whiteley
Joshua Strauss
Jaco Taute
Gio Aplon
Jean de Villiers
Sias Ebersohn
Flip van der Merwe
Francois Hougaard
Jaqueline Fourie
Adriaan Strauss

Can't argue with that.
Fair assessment of the players, and not a noticeable Sharks bias. ;)
No surprise looking at #9!

NZ Conference XV (with my second choice/s in brackets):

1. Wyatt Crockett (Jamie MacKintosh)
2. Kevin Mealamu (Corey Flynn / Hika Elliot)
3. Owen Franks (Ben Franks)
4. Anthony Boric (Jarred Hoeata)
5. Josh Bekhuis (Ali Williams / James Broadhurst)
6. Liam Messem (Adam Thomson)
7. Matt Todd (Luke Braid)
8. Victor Vito (Keiran Read)
9. Andy Ellis (Jimmy Cowan)
10. Dan Carter (ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm............................... maybe Aaron Cruden/Stephen Donald???????)
11. Zac Guildford (Sitivini Sivivatu / Rene Ranger)
12. Sonny Bill-Williams (Ma'a Nonu)
13. Jarred Payne (Robbie Fruean / Richard Kahui)
14. Sean Maitland (Lelia Masaga / Kade Poki / Joe Rokocoko)
15. Isaia Toeava (Ben Smith)

Hardest decisions were at 6/8 (and not picking Ben Smith at 15 ;) )

14. Seam Maitland (Joe Rokocoko)
15. Ben Smith (Toeava)

Been pretty impressive all round with the main issue being 10 and lots if injuries.

Cruden couldn't crack the starting lineup half the season and only found form towards the end. Slade spent almost the whole season injured. Donald spent 4-5 weeks out injured and another 3-4 games after that under obvious strain from his injury but got better at the end of the season. Brett is far to hot and cold as always. Delany was in very bad form and couldn't even make the chiefs 22 towards the end of the season.

Isn't this thread just personal views on the Tri-Nations teams?

Wouldn't disagree too strongly with those, maybe Read ahead of Vito and Fotuali'i as my 9 (just because I have a soft spot for him).

Speaking of Pretorius why on earth has de Villiers not chosen him in the provisional squad? He's been outstanding for the Cheetahs all year.

1. James Slipper (Al Baxter)
2. Tatafu Polota-Nau (James Hanson)
3. Sekope Kepu (Ben Daley)
4. Rob Simmons (Nathan Sharpe)
5. James Horwill (Timani Sitau or that big islander from the Tahs)
6. Scott Higginbotham (Matt Hodgson)
7. David Pocock (Beau Robinson
8. Radike Samo (Wycliff Palu)

9. Will Genia (Richard Kingi)
10. Quade Cooper (Kurtley Beale)
11. Digby Ioane (Digby Ioane)
12. Ben Tapuai (Mike Harris)
13. Anthony Faingaa (Digby Ioane)
14. Drew Mitchell - before injury :'( (Digby Ioane)
15. Ben Lucas (James O'Connor)

I think this thread is about the form XV from each conference. If I was picking who I wanted in the AB's, my XV would look quite different...

Well I just picked the Queensland Wallabies.
I don't think anyone is surprised at who you picked. If there was a thread for a world XV I'm sure you would name the same team.

Nah I would include Luke McAlister and Bismarck Du Plessis and maybe some Samoans :)

1. Wyatt Crockett (Jamie MacKintosh)
2. Kevin Mealamu (Jason Rutledge)
3. Ben Franks (Owen Franks)
4. Jarred Hoeata (Anthony Boric)
5. Ali Williams (Brad Thorn)
6. Adam Thomson (Liam Messem)
7. Matt Todd (Luke Braid)
8. Keiran Read (Victor Vito)
9. Jimmy Cowan (Andy Ellis)
10. Dan Carter (Cruden/Tony Brown)
11. Zac Guildford (Sitivini Sivivatu)
12. Sonny Bill-Williams (Ma'a Nonu)
13. Jarred Payne (Richard Kahui)
14. Sean Maitland (Lelia Masaga)
15. Ben Smith / Toeava

I have (for a change) tried to be un bias....i'll prob change my mind about a few in a minute!

I'm surprised you don't have Robbie Fruean as outside.

So who's this 'Seam' Maitland guy then? Must be pretty good to be picked in everyone's NZ conference XV! :p Anyway here's my XV:

1. Wyatt Crockett
2. Kevin Mealamu
3. Owen Franks
4. Jarred Hoeata
5. Ali Williams
6. Liam Messam
7. Luke Braid (been immense in the last few weeks)
8. Victor Vito (I'm not sure he'll make the AB's :(, but he's still been the standout NZ 8 for me)
9. Jimmy Cowan (Ellis has been good when fit, but Cowan has been very consistent this year)
10. Dan Carter
11. Sitiveni Sivivatu
12. Ma'a Nonu (SBW's been much quieter in the second half of the season, much like Fruean)
13. Jarred Payne
14. Zac Guildford (I know he's a left winger but I couldn't leave him or Sivivatu out...)
15. Ben Smith

Mostly agree:
1 Dean Greyling - started noticing him around the 1/2 way mark and its almost good Steenkamp got injured for him to come through as a great option. He murdered us in our last outing against the Bulls.
2 'Bus'marck - Lots of hookers had good seasons, Strauss and Botha in particular; Cheetahs really missed Strauss and while Fourie had a few memorable games he still needs some work on the basics. Bismarck at 3/4 form still takes it I agree.
3 Werner Kruger - I'm 50/50 here but feel that Kruger edges it with his work at the breakdown
4 Rynhardt Elstadt - Looked promising at the start of the season with Van Zyl injured and didn't look back. Beat out some tough competition for the no. 4 jersey.
5 Andries Bekker - Wilhelm Steenkamp had limited time and Matfield only started playing towards the end of the tournament.
6 Keegan Daniel - The pick of the fetchers with Brussow out.
7 Schalk Burger - He was just too consistantly bustling not to include here. Ashley Johson slipped too many tackles for me.
8 Duane Vermeulen - Such a pity he is all but out of RWC running. Josh Strauss the other contender IMO.
9 Sarel Pretorius - Joint top scorrer and he created almost tries and line-breaks as he took himself. I don't agree with his teammates making up for his defensive frailties though; 4 Cheetahs players are in the top 10 for missed tackles; him, the Ebersohn twins and Ashley Johnson. That leaves BIG holes all over the place.
10 Patrick Lambie - May the Gods be kind and have this kid play as a starter for SA. If not at 10 then at least at 15.
11 Gio Aplon - Consistantly dangerous. Probably I'm biased because Basson also had a good season.
12 Doppies LaGrange - Has had great seasons for a while now but never seems to come into the reckoning.
13 Jaque Fourie - Has been his hard tackling, line busting self consistently.
14 JP Pietersen - the form wing in SA. Keep it up!
15 Riaan Viljoen - the big miss ITO of Sringbok selection; he has it all. I just hope he'll stick around and get his calling after this RWC.

Isn't this thread just personal views on the Tri-Nations teams?

I wouldn't say so; my picks for the 3N/RWC would look markedly different than who I felt were on form.

Du Preez will drag us to another ***le all on his own. If he's not fit, the other reasons are Pienaar and Hougaard. Debatable I guess but these guys make pretty good arguments and have the experience over Pretorius.
