In Cape Town, week 17 ends with a monster game! The Stormers host the Bulls at Newlands and it will be a match that can go both ways. If the Bulls win, they take a big step towards the play offs, if the Stormers win, they are guaranteed the Conference ***le and playing for the top 2 spots, which will give them a week to rest before the play offs. With Peter Grant out, they will have to rely on Kurt Coleman once again but the backline of the Stormers is amazing with Aplon, Fourie, de Villiers, Habana and Jantjes. Having Juan de Jongh and Johann Sadie as a backup they have amazing depth. That is without even mentioning Danie Poolman and JJ Engelbrecht.

The Bulls lose Bakkies Botha which gives them the option to slide Danie Rossouw into the lock-position with Dewald Potgieter taking over. Bakkies Botha loses the chance to play his 100th Super Rugby match. If he misses next week's match and the Bulls don't make the play offs, he moves to France with only 99. Next week the Sharks travel to Pretoria to take on the Bulls and if the Bulls win in Cape Town, that match will be the decider for spot nr. 5 on the log.

Earlier this year the Stormers were victorious over the Bulls in Pretoria, winning 13-23 with a try by Bryan Habana. The 2007 IRB World Player of the Year only scored 2 tries so far this season (the second coming last weekend against the Rebels). It was only their 3rd win over the Bulls since 2004. Between 1998 and 2003 the Stormers recorded 6 wins and 1 draw over the Bulls. The first match between the 2 (back then as Western Province and Northern Transvaal) was won by the team from Pretoria, which ended in 7-35 in Cape Town.

Should be a very good game. I'm picking the Bulls to win a close one, but it could really go either way in my opinion...

Though I think the Bulls will be the hungrier team I feel the Stormers are in there with a good shout. If we can weather the early pressure and get into the game we should be able to shut them out. With FdP not playing I am leaning towards the Stormers assuming Coleman makes his kicks at goal.

An interesting ***bit is that Habana has scored against the Bulls both previous times he faced them in a Stormers jersey; an intercept try in 2010 and sneaking in under Bjorn Basson looking to dot the ball down in his own in-goal area earlier in the year so I am hoping he makes it 3 from 3 and sommer gets a huge confidence boost out of it.

It doesn’t get any tougher than this having to face the Stormers at Newlands to stay alive in the competition. Great talent on display with some mouth watering encounters from individuals members of both teams. Hope both teams can get around the hype and play together a unit.

Looking at last weekend’s games we saw the Bulls winning and winning ugly while the Stormers just outclassed there opposition and claimed a valuable bonus point tour win.

Good luck to both teams! :)<O:p</O:p

So, I take the Stormers are almost guaranteed to finish top of the SA conference hence min 3rd on the overall log. When the Sharks take on the Bulls one of the teams have to win by a approx 70 points to upset the conference. That also means that Stormers will play the 6th wild card qualifier (I think Waratahs) at Newlands Cape Town. If they beat the Cheetahs they come first in the SA conference and 2nd overall and get a bye before playing a home semi.

Yeah, I'm hoping they beat the Cheetahs with a bonus point (very tough I don't know what effect the Cheetah's bye this week will have) to ensure we end 2nd overall and get that rest as we've had the longest go at it without rest and desperately need Grant fit with Duvenhage at 9; Coleman buckled under the pressure as the Bulls fighting for a play-off spot doesn't compare to the Rebels with nothing to lose and Januarie was his consistent poor self.
