Hello Everyone!!
hope you are all having an awesome monday... like me... well maybe not the Lions, Cheetahs or Sharks fans I guess...
what a thrashing this was!
let me start off with the Hougaard Incident: Joubert made the right call, even though the touch judge clearly said over the microphone for everyone to hear that Hougaard did put him safely down. it was still a tip tackle and he got what he deserved. a 1 week ban I think is the correct call. and I got a lot of respect for Hougie, as after the game he apologised to Ebersohn for the tackle, admitted to the citing commissioner and got the punishment.
As for Jacques Potgieter's yellow card... that could be debatable, the touch judge said he went in with his knees and Joubert said it was a shoulder charge... either way i thought it was just a big clash at high speed that took both Potgieter and Brussouw a bit by surprize... Oh well, didn't harm the result, so moving along.
Dean Greyling's try should never have been a try, but the main culprite here was the touch judge... he was supposed to tell Joubert about the double movement... Joubert asked the TMO to look at the grounding of which the TMO reported back, even though you could hear he wanted to tell Joubert that it was a double movement, he couldn't as that is not what Joubert asked him... TMO probably trying to stick to the rules as it was the same guy who got some harsh words last year when he was TMO in the NZ vs SA clash where he told the ref it was a forward pass...
Now, to the game itself... the Cheetahs were horrible!!! The Bulls played great 15 man rugby, and Morne Steyn got his backline away with great decision making... (hey Icemn, did you see???) ... Meisiekind did a great job at 13 I thought and Venter at 12 gives the Bulls more flow than previous years.
I'm very happy with the result, and I can't wait for the next week's round of matches... pity though that I won't be seeing many games as I'm going to the Kruger National park for the weekend...
