The last time these two teams met the Stormers were at home in Cape Town and they beat the Cheetahs 21-15.

This match is in Bloemfontein where prior to last week's loss to the Sharks the Cheetahs were unbeaten in three matches.

The Cheetahs will be aiming to finish their best season of Super Rugby yet on a high by upsetting the South African pace setters, the Stormers. The Cheetahs have won five of their 15 games to date, which include victories over the Waratahs, Brumbies and the Crusaders.

Their last match against the Stormers, in round three in Cape Town, was a tryless affair and was won largely thanks to Peter Grant's boot.

Grant, who has been out with an injury, will be back for the Stormers as they aim for a top two spot on the combined log, meaning automatic qualification for the semi-finals and a well-earned bye during when the four qualifiers fight it out.

It was one of only three games in 2011 where no tries were scored - the others were the Stormers against the Highlanders and The Sharks against the Chiefs.

If the Stormers can keep the Cheetahs from scoring two or more tries, they will finish the season as the most successful defensive side in the competition since 2000.

The team from Cape Town have conceded only 14 tries from their 15 games thus far - the same number of tries let in by the Brumbies in 1999 and two more than the team from Canberra in 2000 when the Brumbies, runners up of the Super 12 that season, let in only 12 tries from their 11 league fixtures.

The next best defensive record after a completed league phase is also held by the Brumbies, who let in 16 tries in 13 games in the 2006 Super 14.

Since 2000, only four teams have let in a total of 17 tries in their league fixtures - the Stormers (2010), the Waratahs (2006), the Cats (2001) and the Brumbies (2001).

The Cheetahs and Stormers have played each other six times and the Stormers have won four of those matches.

When the Cheetahs and Stormers play each other the Cheetahs on average score 21 points and the Stormers score 23 points.

In Bloemfontein the Cheetahs have played the Stormers twice and won one and lost one. Over the two matches the average score for the Cheetahs is 25 points and 19 for the Stormers.

By the time the match kicks off the Stormers will know whether they need a bonus point victory or just a victory to take the top spot as the whole field will have played ahead of them.

If the Stormers need a better points differential they will know to the point how many they need to take the top spot if the Reds don't beat the Chiefs.

Having beaten the Cheetahs on the last four occassions the Stormers biggest worry for this match will most probably be whether Dewaldt Duvenage starts the match and recovers from an ankle injury.

Again a close game but I think the Cheetahs will win it, the previous game was a close on and they have nothing to lose. So full cheetah power.

Hope the Stormers can win this they need the bye and be a real contender for SA in weeks to come.

Agreed...I think the Cheetahs will come out guns blazing in the first 20minutes...if the Stormers can keep them out in that time, they should be in with a good chance of taking the spoils.

I have mixed feelings on this.

I have a natural tendancy to want t'he Bulls/ Stormers to lose, and t'he Cheetahs to win.
But t'he Sharks aren't going to win t'he tournament if t'he final is overseas, so t'he Stormers hosting t'he final is our only hope...

Mon t'he, eh, Stormers?
Interesting that there has been no raging about de Villiers being selected on t'he wing. I remember another coach do t'he same thing got a world of grief.

You are never gonna please everyone as a coach...personally i would like to see more game time given to Sadie...but that is just me.

I see Coetzee is pulling a P Divvy by posting Jean de Villiers on the wing... Ai!!!

They never gave up till the end and played really well, still glad the Stormers won as it increases their changes significantly. Now that my team is not in the tournament anymore I will follow the Sharks and Stormers and hope they can keep our South African rugby name high.
