Super 15: Brumbies - Lions in Canberra (14-05-2011)

Wooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Glad for the Lions. It must be tough losing every game since what.. week 2 or something silly!

Must be even worse if you take into consideration that before that, they lost 17 matches in a row (it was round 4, I think)

Don't forget the Brumbies also don't really perform well this season. Even the Cheetahs beated them ( their first win of the season)

Eh? Early morning jitters in NZ I see, twas the Waratahs whom the Cheetahs first beat this season

I don't understand what happened to the Brumbies. They have been my favourite team for several years, especially when there was Bernie in good form (he's still my idol :D), but now... they don't even look like a team!

No support, no good runs, slow balls from 2nd phase... You can't even blame Gits: he's doing anything, at least he's trying to, but alone, no team-mates who help him. Yesterday I saw only AAC to raise his hand, but come on, he was playing on the wing!!!

And let me say... I have also concerns about selection!

Lealiifano 12 and Tyrone Smith 13 leaving Ashley-Cooper on the wing and Robbie Coleman on the bench, who's the only guy who always try to make some impact??

Bring AAC 13, Speight on the wing (or if you want Lealiifano at fullback and McCabe 15) and try Coleman 12 with Tyron Smith covering this position on the bench.

Ah yeah: Josh Valentine.
Hang him from his toes, upside down!

No wait: just hang him like Spies like us

Alive! I don't want any death! :D

Valentine and Rea.

The first because he never gives quick ball to his backs, he slows down the pace systematically indeed!
The second because he selects him every single week!

I don't follow the Brumbies that closely, but their backline selections seem very weird to me as well. I think Ashley-Cooper should be at centre every week, as he is the incumbent Australian centre, and seems completely wasted on the wing. Now that Speight is back from injury I would select him and Fainifo on the wing (two genuine wings), with McCabe at fullback. I don't rate Lealiifano and would consider Coleman at 12 (as you suggest), or possibly bring in a strong runner at 12 like either Tyrone or Andrew Smith (though I don't know if Andrew Smith has played 12?). I think having a strong runner might complement Giteau better than another creative player, but it really depends on the Brumbies game plan.

Great win for the Lions breaking a 16 year drought. This can probably be the turning point that I was talking about, Lions winning overseas. It boosts confidence and hopefully can help the Lions perform better in the last part of the super 15.:)

Just saw this game and what a performance from the Lions, in particular the first five Janties. Good stuff Lions.
