Stormers Captain and Springbok centre Jean de Villiers will play no further part in the Super 14 after scans revealed the Stormers worst fears on Monday.

De Villiers was forced from the field in the third minute of the Stormers match against the Hurricanes in Wellington on Saturday with a groin injury and scans on Monday have revealed that De Villiers will be out for four to six weeks.

De Villiers will only be able to return to playing rugby again in the British and Irish Lions tour according to Supersport.

This is a big blow for the Stormers as De Villiers has been their beat player and it means that they will have to find a new captain.

The Stormers play their final tour game against the Highlanders in Dunedin this weekend before returning to South Africa where they will play matches against the Chiefs, Force and Cheetahs.

As the news filtered back to South Africa from New Zealand it was also revealed that lock Adriaan Fondse has a broken wrist and that he will be out for eight to 12 weeks with his broken wrist.

Fondse will therefore be ruled out of not only the Super 14 but also the start of Western Province's Currie Cup season.

In a further blow for the Stormers Gcobani Bobo, who left the field on Saturday with an ankle injury, is also unlikely to play for the Stormers against the Highlanders so the Stormers could start with a new midfield combination.

A decision on Bobo will be made this week.[/b]

He'll take a 6 month break before moving to Munster.

Munster will never see him!he will stay with the Stormers even if I have to steal his passport! :p

Why the hell would we pay him a Billion euro wage when we have Earls, Mafi and Murphy in centre!

Because JDV is better than those people.

Yes, and they're all younger, 2 of them are Irish and all of them prefer to play centre making it a bit daft to pay him a small fortune to keep Irish players out of the team.

And anyway, Mafi and Earls are gonan be better than him :p

*prepares for pending South African and Stormers wrath*

No. no... NO!

JDV has to be fit for the tour, I need to see him show up BOD!
The tour will be a lesser event without him there.

Well there's no way he'll miss the tour if he is only going to be out for 4 weeks, but I get what you're saying, I want him in top form when he's busy tearing BOD apart.
Having enough game time and proper match fitness would be ideal, why is it always Jean or Jaque getting themselves banged up before important games ?

How?

Oh, poor Stormers. Their top opportunist intercept master is gone! How will they score tries now if they can't intercept the ball?!

Don't fear though because theres someone else to step into the breach...the ULTIMATE OPPORTUNIST: EDGE!

<strike>Did this horribly crappy Stormers side not wipe their bums with Sarries earlier this year?</strike> Yeah the Stormers suck without him...

I mean that even more following the Connacht match.

Murphy was IMMENSE and he's the back-up!

I was thinking about it today and besides Fritz - Jauzion I can't think of a more dangerous partnership than Mafi - Earls. Darcy BO'D though strong definsively aren't teh same attacking force they were before and on form at the moment.... Mafi - Earls > Fritz - Jauzion.

No seriously. I'd be very annoyed if Munster signed Jean De Villiers (which isn't gonna happen). We'll see it in less than 2 months anyway when Earls comes on as a sub and runs straight through your intercept king.

de Villiers considering leaving South Africa

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div>
Western Province and the Stormers look set to have a fight on their hands if they want to hold on to captain Jean de Villiers for next season.

De Villiers's contract expires at the end of the season and he told Sport24 he will think about his future after South Africa's Test series against the British and Irish Lions.

Until then, South Africa's player of the year in 2008 is keeping his options open.
He is currently being linked very strongly with Irish side Munster.

It is also believed a French club was willing to part with R5.6m a year to secure De Villiers's services.

"My contract expires at the end of the year. I have always had an open mind about playing overseas at some stage."

"I will do that at some point in the future" De Villiers told Die Burger.

"At this stage my focus is to recover from my groin injury and to be ready for the series against the Lions.

"I will make a decision about my future after that."

Worryingly for the future of South African rugby many of their players are planning to leave the country in order to take up lucrative European contracts once the Lions tour is over.

A number of the recent World Cup winners took up foreign contracts but returned to face the Lions on their tour which starts next month.[/b]

Well if Jean could play in this B&I Lions Tour (hopefully will be fit and stay injury free) I think it might be good if he goes and plays some rugby overseas, hopefully for champion side like Munster and not a 2nd teir French club or something...

And then after he is finish there, come back to SA and lead the Springboks to retain their RWC Trophy in New Zealand :D
