Stadio Olimpico is used by Italia's RU team for international matches. Could you tell me the size of the Stadio Olimpico Rugby pitch (width, length of field of play, length of ingoals)?

Wikipedia says: Total pitch surface = 105 × 68 m - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stadio_Olimpico Not much about rugby specifically though.

I swear you've already talked about this before, or was that you complaining that the San Siro isn't good enough for the Heineken Cup final?

Did I? I do not remember.
105m*68m is the international standard for Foorball, but too short for Rugby Union. Rugby Union's pitch is 144m*70m. 144m is 100m field of play plus 22m*2 ingoals. However, ingoals can be short, and "at least 10m when possible". And the width and length of field of play requires 97% of the standard, as far as I remember.

There is an athletic stadium in my hometown. The Football pitch is 105m*68m, but Rugby pitch is 121m*70m (121m=100m field of play, 10.5m*2 ingoals), by using artificial turf. So I wonder if the same thing happens at Stadio Olimpico?

Think it was about the San Siro in Milan and not the Stadio Olimpico, my bad!
You're right about the grass stuff, however, from looking at pictures, I think that measurement is referring to just the football pitch in the middle, and obviously not the massive amount of room available in the Stadio Olimpico. I reckon that they extend the grass pitch for the use of rugby:

I have never ever seen a 22 meter in goal area.

I dunno, Murrayfield's ones are big enough to get lost in...

Murrayfield ingoals are 17m.
There is at least 1 stadium which has 22m ingoals. That is Hanazono in Ã"saka, Japan. (cap 30,000)
This stadium is regarded as a "holy land" for High School Rugby in Japan.

And the 17m one's of Murrayfield prove that you really do not that much room for an in goal area.

Can I ask you a question though? This is certainly the first time you've talked about the specific length of in goal areas, why do you keep focusing on them?

Because of my addiction of uniting the pitch size and moving goals to dead-ball lines, like American Football!
In Canadian Football, moving goals to dead-ball lines is impossible because the length of ingoals is 30yds.

That's the thing, they do not need to be moved! They're fine where they are! I have a feeling you're the only man in the world of rugby worrying about this! :p

They'll never move them. If it ever did become an issue of safety (or controversy over scoring against the pads) they'd just start the posts behind the line and curve them forward so the crossbar is above the line.

Sounds like those posts would look way too weird... Has there ever been any controversies over scoring on the pads? Always seemed perfectly legitimate to me, doesn't happen enough to suggest an unfair advantage to either team.
Safety wise, the pads really do take away the vast majority of any danger of colliding with them. I've definitely had a heavy collision or two into the posts, and have come off no worse for wear. Never actually heard of any post related injury? Saw a random report on injuries in Canadian rugby, and something like 0.7 percent of them came from colliding with some sort of object, though no idea how much of that would be the posts.

I contacted the Hanazono stadium. Very sorry...I was wrong and the ingoal length was 19m!
