i thought bobby skinstads injury put him out of the world cup? willemse ahead of paulse?
 
Yea, its seems Jake has a soft spot for Willemse but he is a very solid wing IMO. Very happy with the squad, but except with Januarie's selection :rahh: . Never liked him but I knew it was going to happen. He does however bring a different element at scrum-half than Du Preez and Pienaar, who are both extremely good at run with ball in hand and kick at the base. So atleast you know when he is on the field there will be no prop standing in as scrum-half since running with the ball isn't he specialty.
Can't wait to see Os in action again :D
 
Interesting that there is no third hooker named in the 30 man squad, if an injury occured on the day of the game who would be the backup hooker in the team - I'd assume it would be one of the props - have any of them played hooker at any level??
 
I thought Bis du Plessis would make the cut into the squad. And White loves skinstad...

I don't love his calls on having one loosie (cronje at that) on standby and four locks in the lineup, when I'm sure bakkies and matfield will start every important game... Another thing I didn't like was I thought olivier was better than murray, and the fact that we only have THREE centres... that should bite us in the ass against teams with a backline

wait... we'll only meet those teams in the quarters :p
 
Not a bad squad overall but I'd make a few changes.
Januarie - Heinie Adams
Os - Jannie Du Plessis
 
As Pretorius is still struggling to fix his buttock in time, this might be a team with a single (or even none, if you rate Butch as more of a back rower..) genuine flyhalf.

But at least no Liefling in sight! :bravo:
 
Actually pretty happy with the squad, except for Olivier. Would`ve preferred Murray to get in there, especially since we`re really light on 13`s. We have Jacque Fourie, and then who? Olivier? No real problems at 12 though. De Villiers is obviously 1st choice, but either James or Steyn can also cover 12 if necessary. So Olivier is surplus to requirements really.

Or if not Murray ahead of Olivier, then ahead of Willemse. We`ve got 3 specialist wingers in Habana, Ndungane and Pietersen already, while either Fourie or Murray could also have covered wing, as could Steyn. So yeah, depth at 13 is a problem, but further pretty much what I`d have done.

Rassie, we no longer talk about Os on this forum. We refer to him as Sir Os. Or maybe God. But never just Os, he`s too much of a legend.

Yeah, very happy Sir Os got in.
 
I think that Paulse should've made it ahead of Ndungane. Akona has crap hands sometimes and I'm not overly impressed with his pace.
 
Steyn and Pienaar can cover so many positions - probably a sordid boon for their careers, so we shouldn't have any problems in the backline. I would have liked to have seen Peter Grant there in place of Olivier, but I know that's not possible with his relative inexperience.

Break a leg Wynand! Please.
 
Too bad I think the squad needs more cheetahs, but I do admit not based on their Super 14 performances but on their Currie cup Performances , Marius Joubert and Eddie fredricks should've gotten place.

It looks like Pierre Spies is going to be out, so only Skinstad as specialist No.8. Luckily loose forwards are something that SA have in abundance. Still think that Kamamba should be included...
 
good squad although id put steyn at flyhalf (mainly coz he has a huge drop kick lol :D ) and put paulse in the squad
 
The springboks are the most agressive team. Shalk Buger is a destructor !!!
