After a similar topic about an All Blacks B-side I was wondering what your choice would be for a Springbok B-side. The guys that just barely miss the Springbok-squad but could easily play if they wouldn't have such heavy competition for their position. it's basically a way to see the depth of our talent-pool

If I had to pick 15 names for a Springbok B-side these would be my guys.

1. Dean Greyling (Blue Bulls)
2. Tiaan Liebenberg (Western Province)
3. Eugene van Staden (Sharks)
4. Steven Sykes (Sharks)
5. Adriaan Fondse (Western Province)
6. Hendro Scholtz (Cheetahs)
7. Jean Deysel (Sharks)
8. Duane Vermeulen (Western Province)
9. Rory Kockott (Sharks)
10. Jacques-Louis Potgieter (Blue Bulls)
11. JJ Engelbrecht (Western Province)
12. Andries Strauss (Sharks)
13. Conrad Jantjes (Western Province)
14. Gerard van den Heever (Blue Bulls)
15. Louis Ludik (Sharks)

Who would you pick?

Jean Deysel seems unfortunate not to be in first team squad, though its hard to argue with Smith, with Rouessew as cover for there and lock, who else is in this positon. Kankoski?

Smith, Daniel, Alberts, Rossouw, Brussouw, Burger, Stegmann are all players Deysel has to compete with. On top of that Deysel has had a very nasty injury lately.

Kankowski, Vermeulen, Wannenburg, Spies are more players for the 8-position in stead of flankers

Out of curiousity, and excuse my ignorence, has Jongi Nokwe fallen off the radar for Bok selection? Considering how little game time he's had in a Bok jersey, he certainly seemed to make the most of it, why no recall? Is he even in consideration?

I remember one match in the Tri Nations years ago where he scored, I think, 4 tries against Australia. Man o man. What a match that was

Jonghi Nokwe is recovering from a fairly serious injury I think

Indeed, a broken leg is not my first choice injury

On top of the OP team, I think players like Waylon Murray, Derrick Minnie and the Lions lock van de merwe (his first name escapes me) would not look out of place as international squad players.
A fit Gerhard Mostert can be added to that list

Well, LH... Give me your fav. 15 then of players not in the Bok-squad lately

I assume you mean SA players :p
Well, I pretty much agree with yours, just saying those players could find their feet, not necessarily as starters but as squad players.

I'll list some teenagers/youngsters who could find touring with the Boks (not necessarily playing) beneficial to their future careers. As, the Aussies do

15. Tiger Bax
14. Mark Richards/ JJ Engelbrecht
13. Andile Jo/ Robert Ebherson
12. Tim Whitehead
11. Gerhard van de Heever (no brainer)
10. Lionel cronje/ Sias Ebherson
9. Conrad Hoffman/ Dewald duvenange
8. Derrick Minnie
7. Joshua Strauss/ Wesley Wilkins
6. CJ Stander/
5. Gerhard Mostert
4. Juandre Kruger/ Franco van de Merwe
3. JC Kritzinger
2. Kyle Cooper
1. Dean Greyling

Sorry to ask LH but how in the world can you not name Vermeulen?

Kockott is a very diverse scrum-half who doesn't just kick the ball like most scrum-halfs (especially Fatty Januarie). And let's face it, if Januarie can be a Springbok scrum-half, Kockott can be one too

Who would you prefer to replace Spies... Kankowski or Vermeulen?

As a Province man I was very sad not too see Kockott picked ahead of McCleod for the CC final. Kockott runs way too much and has run balls tat would have resulted in sure tries had he thought not too take up every 2nd ball.

15 Louis Ludik
14 Gerhard van der Heever
13 Waylon Murray
12 Doppies LaGrange
11 Lionel Mapoe
10 Peter Grant
9 Jano Vermaak
8 Duane Vermeulen
7 Jean Deysel
6 Jacques Botes
5 Franco van der Merwe
4 Steven Sykes
3 Brok Harris
2 Tiaan Liebenberg
1 Wian du Preez

16 Heinke van der Merwe
17 Schalk Brits
18 Adriaan Fondse
19 Ernst Joubert
20 Dewald Duvenhage
21 Joe Pietersen
22 Conrad Jantjes

It would depend on who the opposition, Kankowski against Oz and Argentina, Vermeulen against NH teams and vs. New Zealand it would depend on who the flanks are. (You wouldn't want Alberts and Vermuelen on the same team, or at least for me that would pace-wise a little risky)

Ezequil

Who do you think should start for Boks Alberts or Vermeulen?
(Assuming Spies doesnt play, he isnt a good as them anyway)

I'd go with alberts because he is playing great rugby at the moment.
