Seems like quite a strong team, although I think Fran Steyn and Duane Vermeulen should have been picked.

I like both squads, and I'm very happy to see Rohan Janse Van Rensburg and Francois Venter in the squad for the whole tour. I'm also happy to see rookie flankers in Jean-Luc and Roelof Smit in there.

Smit has been the stand-out fetcher in the Currie Cup, and it's very good to see that AC didn't let his performances go unnoticed.

I wish Rohan Janse van Rensburg was chosen for the squad against Engalnd, Italy and Wales. I know he has not played for the Springboks so they probably don't want to make a drastic decision, but in my opinion he will still be better than Damian de Allende.

Otherwise I am also happy with the team. Lets hope we have a game plan this time.

Geez, I missed that! I thought he was also picked for the whole tour. Pity that he still doesn't get the recognition he deserves. But Francois Venter will also be a valuable addition to the midfield. Perhaps AC is worried that Rohan will have that first-year syndrome so many of our previous centres had in the past?

JPP I mean don't get me wrong he has had a class start to Tigers but I would have thought SA might be looking for younger players. (Guess a good NH tour could put them back in action).

(Also want him at Tigers :(. )

JPP is still young(ish), he's now 30, and can still play at another World Cup. But what I hope is that they play him rather than Habana, along with Sergeal Pietersen.

Fair enough I guess the fact he can play wing,13 and 15 is pretty big as well from a squad POV.

Watching him in super rugby I wasn't that impressed this season but he has had an excellent start for us.

Yeah, and that is also why AC didn't select him for the RC. He wanted him to have a bit of a rest before he started for the tigers and to get him used to the conditions.

For some reason JPP has always performed for the Boks in the NH.

Yeah that is what I am thinking, but even then I would still choose him over Damian. Lets hope Rohan plays an excellent match against the Barbarians and AC decides to use him in the other matches.

With selected squad for baabaas, my selection and replacements would be as follows:

15. Cheslin Kolbe - Ruan Combrinck 2nd half
14. Ruan Combrinck - Sergeal Peterson 2nd half
13. Jesse Kriel - Francois Venter 2nd half
12. Damian de Allende - Rohan Janse Van Rensburg 2nd half
11. Jamba Ulengo
10. Patrick Lambie - Tian Schoeman 2nd half
9. Rudy Paige - Piet Van Zyl 2nd half
8. Nizaam Carr - Jean-Luc du Preez 2nd half
7. Tebogo Mohoje - Uzair Cassiem 2nd half
6. Roelof Smit
5. Pieter-Steph Du Toit - Lood De Jager 2nd half
4. Eben Etzebeth - RG Snyman 2nd half
3. Lourens Adriaanse - Thomas Du Toit 2nd half
2. Adriaan Strauss - Malcolm Marx 2nd half
1. Tendai Mtawarira - Lizo Gcoboka 2nd half

KEY COMBINATIONS

Back Three: An unlikely combination at the back, but surely to inject lots of creativity on attack. Kolbe is the only specialist fullback and should therefore start, however should make way for Peterson in 2nd half and thus shift Combrinck to fullback. Ulengo should be able to play a solid role on the left throughout the match.

Midfield: I am still itching the see Kriel & DDA start together. This was one combination which fired for the Boks in last year's RWC. More interestingly, the 2nd half introduction of a Janse Van Rensburg-Venter combination is all that Currie Cup supporters would have had in their weekly teams this season.

Halfbacks: Paige & Lambie could well be the short-term solution to the Boks lowly aspirated half-backs combinations of this year. This is an opportunity to get these 2 off the mark for the rest of the outgoing tour. Only when the game is in in the bag (hopeful) can Van Zyl and Schoeman be introduced.

Back-Row: Also an unlikely combination in the starting 3, but Springboks through the presence of Carr & Mohoje is important to groom Smit on his national debut. Du Preez and Cassiem should then do well off the bench after a platform has been established.

Locks: The experienced Stormers duo forms the basis of strength in this Springbok team in means of giving drive forward momentum, however only for 1 half and Snyman and De Jager should carry on with might in the 2nd half.

Front-row: As with the locks, the frontrow should also pack some brunt of experience in a tight-five which is expected to provide a good platform of play and the 2nd half counterparts should then slot in the latter part of the game.

Hopefully our starters can do a good enough job in first half to allow for early introduction of the bench in 2nd half.

Starting 15 I would like to see against the Barbarians:

15. Jesse Kriel
14. Ruan Combrinck
13. Francois Venter
12. Rohan Janse Van Rensburg
11. Sergeal Petersen
10. Patrick Lambie
9. Faf de Klerk
8. Nizaam Carr
7. Jean-Luc du Preez
6. Roelof Smit
5. Pieter-Steph Du Toit
4. Eben Etzebeth
3. Lourens Adriaanse
2. Adriaan Strauss
1. Tendai Mtawarira

How the hell are they going to allow 13 Subs??? This isn't a friendly or warm-up match... We'll still only be allowed to have 8 subs.

Really? I see no reason why it should not be allowed if it falls outside the official World Rugby test window.

Does it really matter that it falls outside the test window? Players playing for their country against the Baa-baas never gets capped for the Baa-baas game anyways, so what's the point of having it during the test window??

But it's still a great spectacle to watch, and I don't want the traditions of the Baa-baa's game to be diluted with a bunch of subs running onto the field.

petersen and combrinck have me very excited... i just don't know if the boks have the midfield to get the ball to them

It all depends on who they pick in the midfield, as well as the gameplan. I have an idea now that Franco Smith is there, that the ball will be travelling more to our outside backs.

Franco, who was a Springbok flyhalf himself has proven to me that he has what it takes to be a great asset, and one day be a great Springbok coach!

I am optimistic that we will see some change to the boks this November with the addition of certain players as well as Franco Smith and JP in the coaching department.

Like that team. Only I would play Casiem at 7 and du Preez at 8. But I think AC will choose DDA and Kriel at centers because thats how it would look like against Englad.
