South Africa's Chiliboy Ralepelle and Bjorn Basson fail doping tests

As only two SA players got selected for testing, and they got selected at random, and considering how little this 'stimulant' stimulates, I see two or three things

1. The entire Bok ate/drank (not neccesarily alcohol of course) at a place, or from a single source, in which case the entire squad has the problem. (This involves consuming the stimulant without knowing it)
2. Maybe a group of players, which included the two mentioned, ate/drank/accidentally consumed from a single source.

3. or, once again considering the nature of the 'drug', (and this is the predominant South Africa view [in Durban at least]) that the Boks were set-up by New Zealand and the IRB, Chilliboy and Basson specifically chosen for testing, in order to tarnish the Bok image and etc....

Obviously I feel this was an accident, and hope only a small group of players were involved, as I want Scotland to beat the Boks on the field, not by forfeit due to suspensions
The last one really ****** me off, I hope it is just in Durban, but everyone I talk to this about is sure its a conspiracy
Haha, I like the last one. If an uncapped winger and a more or less "token" selection, is what New Zealand (government, IRB, players?) consider to be South Africa's greatest threat, then South Africa really do have something to worry about.

Is that really true LordHope? Because if it is I think there is a lot worse drugs than Methylhexaneamine going around in Durban.

I'm pretty sure he was jesting, or at least I hope he is, because that's one dumb as hell thing to be paranoid about XD

hasn't it been confirmed that they just took a nasal decongestant which has from what I can tell, a pretty useless stimulant which in all likelyhood does -nothing- and when you consider the players would take the decongestant when they're sick, they probably weren't even 100% at any rate.

Why is this such a big thing ?
If a Springbok were taking performance enhancing drugs to you know, perform better, that might be news worthy.

You've hit the nail on its head, Nick. It's called Durban poison.

Can't speak for the rest of the country but in the Cape the general feeling is that its a pretty innocent incident but very unfortunate none the less. Generally, though, people are much more worried about Habana's lack of form than the BUll's players being tested positive.

With Chiliboy out and Habana injured the team actually gets stronger, LOL. Strauss and Mvovo are class and well suited to heavy playing conditions. Moving Aplon to the wing position also suits me fine as I have reservations about Aplon at 15 due to his lack in distance when kicking. Midfield is where I am most worried but we are fooked for centers at the moment so it will have to do.

Well, I guess the Bulls are happy to have such a big squad with 3 players on the verge of not being able to play for a long period of time. Roux with that murder-charge and these two with a possible suspension

@ Boggle: You forgot to change your signature. The Sharks have won their 6th Currie Cup last month ;)

It's a blessing in disguise really. I'm rather keen to see Mvovo in action on Saturday, I just can't believe the random selection of Kankowski at no.8? What the hell? It makes no sense at all. Drop Spies but he chooses Kankowski instead of Alberts.

Stegmann is clearly useless, what else do you expect from a bulls flank, but he stays! My head can't take this any longer. I need a very la.. sma... large drink.

Positive B-samples for Bok duo

13th December 2010 14:13

An anti-doping tribunal will investigate the drug allegations against Chiliboy Ralepelle and Bjorn Basson, SA Rugby Union (Saru) revealed on Monday.

Tests conducted on them after the match between South Africa and Ireland in Dublin last month allegedly showed traces of the banned stimulant, methylhexaneamine.

Both players asked for their B samples to be tested. The results confirmed the findings of the A samples.

Saru said the players would not contest the testing procedures and that, as a result, the investigation and hearing would be conducted in South Africa.

The date for the hearing and the composition of the tribunal would be announced once the investigation was completed in the new year.

Well, the second test was, as expected, positive as well. I am very curious to see what will happen now. If Basson and Ralepelle get a ban, the Bulls won' be too happy. They just signed Basson and after Bees Roux being arrested for murder they lose out on another forward with Ralepelle.

I dont see why this stuff is banned.. It gives you no more of a real advatage than taking a caffine pill.
I can also see how mistakes can be made. Im on a supliment featuring DMAA and there was no mention of it being a banned substance.
