LIONS lock Simon Shaw has revealed that he turned down shares in Cardiff Airport when rejecting a move to the Arms Park.
Shaw makes the disclosure in his book The Hard Yards: My Story by Simon Shaw when he discusses his move from Bristol in the late 1990s.
“There were offers from Wales. Cardiff came in and offered me various deals, including shares in Cardiff airport.
“I was offered £250,000 a year to join the new professional team at Richmond,†said the 2003 England World Cup winner.

“Because it was so huge I thought the offer was a bit crazy. I believe that sport is about longevity and history and that you can’t buy results.
“Bath, Leicester and Wasps were the big three, and I knew I wasn’t going to sign for Bath. I spoke to Bob Dwyer at Leicester and they offered me very good money and said they would pay me the same as Martin Johnson. I couldn’t see myself living in Leicester.â€
