The Scarlets have bolstered their backs with the signing of Tongan winger Viliame Iongi. Iongi is the second Tongan to sign for the Scarlets this season, following Sione Timani. Iongi has impressed so far in his international career scoring 7 tries in 9 caps, including 4 on his debut against the USA, in front of Scarlets coach Nigel Davies.

Iongi will compete with George North and Sean Lamont to start on the wing, with the latter able to switch to centre. Iongi will only boost the Scarlets backline which has over the past year had a resurgence in talent with the rise to prominence of North, Scott Williams and Jonathan Davies.

Hmm.... He sounds like a good player, but did we really need him? We already have plenty of players in that position coming through, but I suppose he could be a decent signing.

Iongi is a great player - showed massive potential in the Churchill cup

Scarlets do have a lot of talent in their backs though - going to be tough to break into the starting XV, especially as he isn't bringing a massive amount of experience so wouldn't be bringing experience to a young set of backs or anything

Wish him all the best though, and can't wait to see him take to the pitch

Someone who's leapt from nowhere to become a personal favorite of my to watch, glad to see him sign with the Scarlets. They're starting to develop some strength-in-depth now, which can only be a good thing, given that one of him, North, Lamont, Stoddart or Scott Williams shall have to miss out on the First XV.

When 6 nations comes around i'd assume North, Stoddart, Lamont will be out, so it makes sense. I'm sure he'll have his chances to impress, looks fast judging on the try he scored against Fiji.
