The WWE Unforgiven thread was unceremoniously dumped into the Entertainment section. I say "down with this sort of thing!" and "Careful now!"

The choice is yours - vote on how you feel.

Personally I think its ludicrious to suggest that wrestling is anything other than a sport. It might be scripted, the outcome might be pre-determined but if they aren't atheletes then I don't know what is.

SAVE_US.OTHER SPORTS

Obviously, the "Other Sports" thread needs to be saved.

Vote "Other Sports!" Now!

Dan there are two sorts of wrestling...

Proper Wrestling - What the olympics class a Sport

Fake Wrestling - Acting, pre-determined results, drugs are actively encouraged... ie WWE

So if you want to talk about the later talk in the Entertainment section, if you wanna talk about Proper Wrestling then talk in Sport...

Also how can you call a group of guys and girls, who are actively encouraged to take Steroids to boost their athletic ability, Athletes... What kind of message does that send out to kids? IF you class it as a sport Children will believe Drugs should be allowed in sport...

Oh come off it! Firstly, there is a comprehensive program run by the WWE to stamp out drug abuse in its roster of wrestlers! The WWE Wellness program does not promote drugs. Period. End of story. William Regal is the most recent member to be suspended for violations in the Wellness program and the program has actually saved the life of one member of the WWE Roster, MVP who was diagnosed with a rare heart condition which could have proved fatal. And before you ask, no, it wasn't brought on by steroid abuse. It is known as Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.

Secondly, drug abuse is far more prevalent in Athletics, the Tour de France...what kind of message has the last four or five Tours de France sent to children across the world? A far worse one than that of one or two wrestlers flouting the rules and paying the price for it.

When you see guys like Rey Mysterio and Matt Hardy as well as basically anyone from Luche Libre in Mexico and from some of the major Japanese Wrestling promotions, you have to admire the athleticism, the drive and the death defying nature of their work. They are athletes who are proud of what they do and how they do it. Hall of Famer Bret "the Hitman" Hart once said that he took pride in never actually injuring any one of his opponents during his long career. And guess what? He's a national hero in Canada.

So in closing ladies and gents, we all enjoy Wrestling and we all know that nobody ever uses the Other Sports thread...so lets make it more active. Lets talk RAW and SMACKDOWN and TNA iMPACT!

I give you the definition of Sport:

Sports is an activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively. Sports commonly refer to activities where the physical capabilities of the competitor are the sole or primary determiner of the outcome (winning or losing)

As the results are Pre-determined, it can't be allowed to categorised as a sport...

Gentlemen,

I think its obvious that Charlie can't hack the intensity that is..the Animal..

Gentlemen,

I personally can't see how you can argue something when it is called World Wrestling Entertainment...

I will agree these people who participate in the SHOW are very good improv actors...

People People

The supporters of this entertainment hold no valid argument, this is why they have to go to quoting these actors...

I voted for entertainment. Was leaning towards that way anyway but Charlie provided a clear debate over it.

no question, its not a sport, its entertainment. it even says it in its ***le "sports entertainment" I cant really call it a sport as its not competitive, its pre determined therfore, entertainment, and thats a stretch anyway :)

WWE is bullshit. It may entertain some people, if they want to debate about it it should be in the entertainment section IMHO.

The poll speaks for itself. I think the result is totally wrong but I stand by it.

Having just left the civil service it would appear to me that you require a level of incompetence to work there and a tolerence of higher management stupidity. Just some observations, like.

Bah Your just jealous, you couldn't provide an arguement why it deserved to be in the sports section!!!

I shouldn't need to, wrestling is generally classed as a sport and has been discussed in TRF's Other Sports section for five years. However, it would appear that the majority feel it should be in entertainment so the people have spoken - even though I think they're wrong.

I think any serious sports forum wouldn't classify Wrestling performances as a sport. Sport is a legitimate contest. Wrestling entertainment is a choreographed performance. It's more of an art than a sport. I can imagine this isn't something pleasant to acknowledge if you love your sports entertainment, but let's face it, forums, bloggers and other journalists have to rise above their own interests if they want to maintain any sort of professional credibility.

**EDIT** Just re-read that. Seemed a little blunt. I actually like a bit of wrestling myself, but was just getting to the point.
