How come we had to put up with Leinster fans claiming that Fitzgerald needed time on the win to find form for about 6 months and Earls has one bad match on the wing (his shitness in the centre accepted) and being selected against the USA becomes a 'shocker'?

McFadden, Earls, Bowe and Trimble were playing better than Fitgerald at the time. So was Shane Horgan, and Fionn Carr.


I don't care really, I just felt like being grumpy on the internet. In Football manager my Airtricity league season crumbled with Cork City and I lost out to Shamrock Rovers by a point.

Buckley not Munster and only option available.
D.Ryan selected as there in big doubts for Ferris and Cullen has calf strain.
Leamy a good option and again no other options either.
Reddan is Leinster.
O'Gara is only other 10 and in good form.
Trimble unlucky to not start and may just be rested.

So if you going to argue at least grow a pair and offer alternatives and maybe look up the Irish team and see their state of fitness before stupidly stating comments.

I don't buy the September 11 thing. I think it'd be stupid to play a totally second rate team against USA but I dont think the date is gonna give them an edge. Of course they're playing to win. No International sports team plays to lose.

Also, don't forget; Ireland A trash the US regularly. A second rate Ireland team SHOULD win against the US but there'd be a danger of it being a challenge and of there being no bonus point

Let me say that I know Todd Clever a over half of the USA team. They are entering this like nothing I have seen before. The USA is feeling the anniversary strongly and the UAS Eagles are competing for the entire population. They´ll look like Argentina signing the anthem. Todd is a really motivated guy. Takes no **** from anyone and is in the form of his lief. Be warned, if Ireland treat this lightly they are going to have more trouble than Scotland did today vs Romania.

BTW not all teams go into games to win. I wish they did but its just not possible given the rules of rugby which mean its not possible to play negatively and expect to come close like in soccer. From what I´ve seen and from who I´ve spoken with they play firstly for themselves and secondly to have fun. Winning is, in the end, not as important as these things. I started a team in 2009. We are in the São Paulo championship in Brazil. The goals are long term - just like they are for many teams. Marius Tincu said something that everyoen should pay attention to - Romania enjoyed playing Scotland today but in 2007 they didn´t.

To be honest I think that if the US treats this differently to any other match in the world cup they are in trouble, I could see them over preparing and burning themselves out before the match.

I don't think there's a massive chance that they'll make it out of the group - good performances will be what they're after, and if they can push Ireland right to the edge (or even draw/win) then that could be very good for them

I agree but i think that if they have put way more in to this match than they do for other matches and they concede early it could break them and Ireland should get a big win after that.

I think the Eagles have it in them to make it uncomfortable for Ireland but I don't think the result is in any question.

The question is whether they'll do it or not, if the final score is 28-17 to Ireland then the Americans can walk out with their heads held high, but it could just as easily get out of hand.
